Curbs?

I bought a horse with a curb, she passed a five stage vetting (by a vet that is notoriously strict!) as suitable for affiliated SJ 1.20m+. Curb was cold and hard when vetted and vet advised that it would be unlikely to ever cause issues but don't do fast work in heavy going (e.g. hunting).

Had the horse for nearly a year and curb hasn't caused any problems but she has only been in light work as she's a youngster.

From what I've read and been told curbs, once settled, rarely cause performance issues and are only really a problem for showing.

Worth considering how the curb arose as there may be other underlying issues (such as poor conformation).

I have NEVER had a curb cause problems, but then I am not a racing/hunting person and will not be asking horses to gallop or go through heavy going. Showing is rather old fashioned and has it's own preferences which emphasise things which are not nowadays terribly relevant, probably because it was set up in days when really the only uses for a horse were hunting or racing.

My horse threw a curb in march last year hunting in very heavy going. I was onto it immediately and treated it by the book, it's settled & hard & he is back hunting but so far this season it has been very dry but I will be cautious about heavy going from now on .
