I took delivery of a TB mare on Saturday, and since then have been doing a bit of digging trying to find out her history.

The person she came from forgot to bring her passport, but has sent me photo's so I can trace her history.

This is where it gets odd.

Her name is written in pen, then crossed out and another name written in. This name is the name of a gelding born in the 80's or 90's (can't remember off hand), not a bay mare born in 2006!

The sire, dam, date of foaling, stud book number, passport number and microchip number are all on the passport. How can I find what her registered name is (if any) as searching the racing post and other tracing sites don't bring up either of her names, except for the probably now deceased gelding!

Would there be a progeny list anywhere for her dam?

It's driving me mad!

Can you get her microchip read and check her details with the microchip company? That way you will know if you have the right details for her.

I plan to do that at some stage, but wondered if there was anything I could do now. Apparently one of her previous owners (and there have been many :() contacted the breeder named on the passport who confirmed she is she, but I don't know all the details of the conversation etc. The previous owner just said she had contacted the breeder to find out when she left racing. She never raced though, didn't make the grade.
