Curved Girths

I've been recommended a curved girth by my saddler. My girlie has a very forward girth grove and a barrel shaped body that pulls my current wintec elastic straight girth forward and as a result it is pulling the saddle forward. The point straps on the saddle are starting to distort due to the uneven strain.

Saddler has recommended a curved and I mean a full on banana shaped girth or perhaps a sticky rubber like saddle pad. I want to opt for the former has she is sensitive skinned and currently clipped so would want to irritate her unduly

I am no way in any position to buy an ridiculously priced leather job but can someone recommend me a reasonably priced one
With elastic at both ends in the middle or non at all.

Many thanks

One of my horses also has a very forwards girth grove. I recently started this thread which might be of help to you too ..http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=585044

I was looking for a dressage girth, but I think all of those mentioned are also available in GP if that's what you are looking for. Some interesting info there, particularly ref the buckle angle.

I bought the Heritage girth pictured and recommended here and it really works, I'm thrilled with it. The Bates/Wintec one recommended also is available on Equestrianclearance.com too if that helps.

Watching this with interest as I asked about this on here recently and only really got dressage girth info so still looking for a standard length version.

Prestige also make a curved girth that is virtually identical to the Fairfax one, and about half the price - still expensive 'tho. I am liking the Albion Humane girth for my barrel shaped, no-wither slithery horse, it's not as extreme in the shaping, but evens out the pressure front and back and works very well on this horse. Also available in cheaper version.

SOrry, just to add the buckle angle discussion is interesting but I'm still trying to work out if it refers to dressage girths only, just when I looked at the heritage girths the standard option doesn't have angled buckles just straight with a wiggle so not sure what's available in a non dressage version.

Got the same issue with the cob I share so also interested in this thread. I looked on the Internet but there did not seem to be too many choices available.

I have a leather curved girth with no elastic supplied by Kay Humphries which works beautifully well on horses with a deep chest and forward girth groove.

I had one and it was the biggest waste of money ever. Paid nearly £100 for it and then sold it on Ebay for £9.99 :(

To be honest, if your saddle is sliding forward and even the point straps aren't helping, then it's probably the wrong saddle for your horse. In the 4 years I've had my horse, I've tried everything, grip pads (some of those worked but caused friction rubs on her), curved girths, equalizer girth. You may just need a saddle with a flatter panel shape or one with more forward placed girth straps (more nearer to the tree points) or angled forward.

I recommend you try the girth first if you can and not waste £100 I did :(

Thanks guys I'll have a look at this suggestions and the other thread link.

Sorry I forgot to mention it was a dressage girth I'm after ;)

Yes I have the shires one

I love it

Works a treat on my lad his shoulder point is set far back so his saddle sits back and this reaches his girth groove nicely

It's lovely quality, highly recommended it

I have the brown one.

That's really great to know, thank you. It's marginally (gulp!) cheaper than some of the others around. But, as I'm currently in the process of saddle buying - what's the point in buying top class trainers and then having rubbish laces!
