my beautiful old lady has been on Prascend for just over 6 weeks now, she was re-blood tested on Friday and the results have come back with next to no change :( so the vets advised me to put her on 3 a day for 4 weeks and re-test again! which if this is the correct level will be costing me £135 a month :( is there anyway of sourcing the meds for less? or do you have to get them from the vets? especially when my current bill is already at over £600 and seems to be ever increasing!!

I sympathise, our pony has been on 2.5 tablets for over a year. It is cheaper to buy the prascent online (usually just under £1 each) but you will need a prescription from your vets which can cost upwards of £10. Most vets will give you a script covering several months so it does work out cheaper.

okay, thank you! I will speak to them in the morning about a prescription then and see if it works out any cheaper! I'm hoping it will go down after 4 weeks but I don't ever have luck, and if 1 hasn't made much difference, I can't see that it will go down really! but heres to hoping!

I just simply can't afford them. I had decided to have my horse pts when he was diagnosed (he has other issues as well) however I thought after being contacted by a Hho member to try Chaste Berry. She had used it successfully on her horse so I figured it was worth a try.
I know scientifically it's not proven to work and I've not had my horse retested since starting him on it but he is totally back to his old self. No laminitis attacks, no depression and and just pure miserable painful grouchiness anymore.
My vet thinks I'm slightly mad but it's worked a small miracle for me. Maybe it's worth a try, it costs me £10 and has lasted absolutely ages.

Nb- I'm not suggesting you stop the Precsend. I had nothing too loose by trying it but Precsend is the only clinically proven treatment- just that this stuff could help? X

I kinda think that if proper meds don't work, how can herbal? and I defo can't afford to try both! I will see what happens after the 3 a day!! I have noticed what I thought was a change in my mare since being on 1 a day but apparently not! maybe im just looking for it? she's never had lami so its only her coat and attitude that is affected at the moment!

My horse was diagnosed with Cushings in the summer, so can sympathise.

I shopped around online and found the best price for Prascend and then went back to my vet. He did me a deal - as long as I bought 160 tablets at a time, he matched the online price plus £20, which I would have had to pay for the prescription.

I was delighted because it gave a huge discount in the vets' price but it meant I wasn't taking my business elsewhere. I would definitely recommend approaching your vet once you have done your research into online prices.

Good luck!

The vet meds or viovet do good prices but only if you are getting 160. My girl is on one tab a day, Still needs to be retested but seems ok. My biggest fear is being told she needs an increased dose! . I will afford it somehow if that's the case...but I'd rather not!

I'm the same as you. She will have it regardless but if I can get it cheaper that will be better. At the moment I paid 135 for 3 months worth of 1 a day so hopefully they will do a deal if I get more

All I can say is thank god I've got a permanent job at work after 15 months of temping here

If you are using a large dose such as 250 micrograms your vet may be able to prescribe Pegolide - the human equivalent which is very much cheaper at £35 per 100

I second that Chaste Berry is great for cushings. It's only 10 pounds for a kg of powder. It has been proven to work by a lady who had her pony tested and then retested 3 months after starting on Chaste Berry and the levels were back to normal. There was a good article in one of this year's BHS magazines.

How long does 1kg last for?

maybe all on here that try it should have the test done before and after, the before test is still free I believe

I get my Prascend from animed direct. 90p each tablet with free delivery. They are normally with me in three or four days. My vets charge £20 for the prescription though which is quite steep. I did manage to get six months worth on this one though, normally only three.
