Hello, elderly mare just diagnosed with cushings, has started prascand today.

I've read about limiting sugar intake however, according to some info this advice applies to cushings in combination with insulin resistance.
So is limiting sugar still important in horses that have cushings but aren't IR?

Haven't thought to ask vet about diet yet. What experiences have other Cushing forum members had? Thanks in advance

Have a look at the laminitis site..it will give you info about Cushings, SMS and laminitis plus diet etc...
It depends, is your mare a good weight or needing weight? Ideally I would say from experience, sugar and starch levels should be below 10%, I have mine on hi fi molasses free, a good balancer (dengie vits n mins, forage plus or progressive earth, plus others on website) salt, plus soaked hay, but my lad had low grade laminitis so I'm quite strict on his feed and regime...anyway have a look,it is full of useful stuff

Thanks, I'll have a look at that site.
