Am going to have one of my boys tested for Cushings shortly. I know that the medication can be really expensive and I'm not sure that I can go down that route for financial reasons. He has a low sugar, low starch conditoning diet with plenty of forage (hay and hi-fi lite) because he has been prone to lami in the past. Does anyone have any tips for managing this condition without the medication?

It all depends in your results , my boy is borderline therefore doesn't require medication he will be re-tested every 6 months to keep an eye on it ! You have the right sounding diet in place already.
My vets said if I require medication in future it works out approx £1 per day for prascend , ill just sacrifice a chocolate bar a day.

If he is borderline (ACTH levels) you could try Vitex, the herbal remedy (aka chasteberry). It does help with the symptoms, but if he has very high ACTH (taking into account that this time of year is when they are all at their highest) then pergolide as Prascend is really the only thing that will make a difference. If you shop around t'internet you can get it cheaper than through your vet but you will need a prescription from the vet and some charge for that. The cheapest I have found is just over £136 (inclusive of postage and VAT) for a pack of 160 from Vet- medics, but they vary from month to month so worth shopping around.
