Hello guys,

i dont knwo what i can do or if anyone knows of anyways to get through to the insurance that this is cruel, the vets says they will not pay out unless bone goes through foot yet that would be so so painfull how is that humane????

please can anyone help me?

xx

I dont have much advice other than i can really feel for you, what bought the second lammi attack on? My horse is still recovering {nearly there} 6 months from being diagnosed with lammi/cushings he is 16 years old, im finding it really difficult managing him as he lived out before all of this, but im going to see what quality of life he will have when his lammi is better, then i will make the decision whether or not to have him pts, your horse is still very young for all of this, but you have to give it a try, then make the decision, regards insurance paying out, i can not help you on that one.

thank you so much for your reply, this is his third lammy outbreak he too was always out so doesnt cope well being shut away and even with muzzle on he is getting too much, i dont see what quality he has not being able to run round fields or do jumping which is what he loves to do he used to jump for fun but he had pedal bone rotation so dont think he will be able to again :(

just dont know what to do didnt sleep a week last night thinking about it all

I know how you are feeling my lovely little welsh/arab who i had had since he was two had metabolic related laminitis he was only ten, struggled for a year to save him, he had no quality of life, then one foot was giving so much pain we couldn,t control it, so had to have him pts I was heartbroken.

Seven weeks later my beautiful 22 yr old T.B who had cushings also got laminitis all four feet, vet said prognosis for him was poor, I decided not to watch my dear horse who had always been so full of life decline this way so I let him go, this was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

I do feel for you, I hope you have a better outcome than I did some people do fair better with their cushings/metabolic horses. Good luck.

I feel very sorry for you, because this is a horrible decision, but you need to make the right decision for the horse. If you and the vet feel it is the right time, then it it IS the right time.

The insurance issue is not his problem, nor is it his fault. Keeping him going because you don't want to lose the death claim, is not fair on your horse.

Feel for you - my mare was 8 and was pts with Cushings/laminitis, earlier this year. insurance would not pay - BEVA guidelines state when insurance co's can pay out. My vets' said exactly the same as yours - we discussed quality of life at such a young age. My poor horse's pedal bone had rotated and was about mm above the sole, was given another option but vet said PTS best and I was and still am convinced it was right. so painful an experience and hate to read of your sufffering a similar experience.
