My horse has been diagnosed with cushings disease. It's in very early stages so he was only showing mild symptoms luckily but he will now be put on pergolide.
Iv heard that if you get a prescription from the vet then it is possible to purchase pergolide from a local pharmacy much cheaper than the vets can supply it to me for, as its the same medication that is used to treat Parkinson's in humans.
Is this true and can anyone recommend anywhere I could purchase it cheaply? If anyone has had any luck treating cushings via any other method I'd be interested in hearing about this too :)

Has he been put on pergolide or the equine licensed prascend? Pergolide is definitely cheaper but I didn't think vets can prescribe it for new cases-I may be wrong. I got a prescription from my vet for pergolide- they charged about £10 for admin. The cheapest place I found was healthcounter.com -my mini is on 0.25mg a day and it cost about £80 for just over a years supply. Definitely a lot cheaper than through the vets

Sorry I think it actually is prascend, I thought prascend was the brand and pergolide was the type of tablet though? I may be completely wrong here though as this is all new to me!
I will check out health counter.com, much cheaper than what my vets are charging!

I think it's the same tablet just been branded and licensed for equine use and at double the price! I'm not sure but if you've been prescribed prascend I don't think they'll be able to dispense pergolide against the prescription.........
