Hi my 20 yr old ID x has Cushing's at the mo he is very hairy, itchy and looks uncomfortable. I am tempted to clip him but he lives out all year round so I'm a bit concerned that his hair won't grow back in time for the winter!!! To clip or not to clip that is the question :-)

I clip my mare after she molts as it warms up (will be doing this weekend) leave her hairy for most of winter then as it gets above freezing toward end of winter I clip again.

I've clipped three of mine out, two have Cushings and one only has a trace clip and hasn't lost any of her winter coat! It's just beginning to thin on her shoulders. The 25 year old TB was very uncomfortable last spring as he had a very thick coat so I clipped him out this year and last and he seemed so grateful.

It will definitely grow again in winter - don't worry!

I would clip. I have never know a cushings horse not grow a winter coat. The problem appears to be not shedding the old one. His winter coat will not start growing until September, and it will keep growing through to the end of December, so there is no chance you will affect it if you clip him now.
