Diva had a borderline result back in June and although vets haven’t been concerned and have attributed a lot of her issues to EMS, I still have a niggle in the back of my mind. I have pushed for a prascend trial but vets won’t entertain it at this stage.

They have said that it’s best to retest her again in the autumn, which I am going to do, but when is the best month to do it?

if you are unhappy I would push for a TRH test. I didn't have much luck with the cushings test. Mine came back negative twice on a horse with full blown cushings.
Do you have any symptoms? I would list all possible symptoms. It may be you have very few and the borderline result is not backed up the symptoms. Alternatively you may have a lot of symptoms which make the result questionable. There is a very good FB equine cushings group where this sort of question is asked frequently. My vet said the horse didn't need prascend based on the test results and in fact didn't notice the cushings symptoms he had. I presented them with a list of symptoms and they were unable to deny that even with a negative result he should trial prascend.

I agree with paddy555.

We had one tested, three times, each time 'within normal range' but we were concerned and asked for the TRh test, it came back at 8x the normal maximum. We were told the end of August was a good time to test.

Thank you. She does have symptoms, but because she has EMS and her insulin levels are off the chart, the vets think this is the more likely cause. We can’t get metformin into her unfortunately. Her weight has come down, but she holds it dreadfully on her crest, shoulders and quarters.

Symptoms are; increased drinking, unusual shedding patterns, excessive sweating, itchy, but mostly she is just very lethargic/flat.

I would ask for a TRH test - you are paying for it, after all!

based on the symptoms you have described I too would ask for the TRH. Whether the vet likes it or not it is your money at the end of the day and I would be concerned with those symptoms and not happy to wait any longer. Will she not accept metformin being syringed in?
