Just reminding everyone about the free lab tests vouchers being offered for April and May....
http://www.talkaboutlaminitis.co.uk/certificate-form/

My 26 year old had no definite symptoms.

I just had a 'feeling'.

I printed off my voucher and got him tested yesterday. It took 30 seconds for the vet to take his blood. The result came back within 24 hours!

Normal ACTH level is around 35.

Obi's level came back at over 200

.

He is starting on medication tomorrow.

It's quick, cheap and could save a horse from the pain of lamintis.
Please take advantage of this offer while there's still time :)

Heh... well, there go most of our lab's Endogenous Equine ACTH's for April/May
Damn, we were getting quite a few of those in as well. Perhaps a mention at work on Monday.....
We'll have to try to figure out what test kit LEH are using for for E-ACTH's, wonder if it's as reliable as ours...

It's good of them though, to give it out for free.

Ah, well that makes sense then. We do a similar thing for cats with hyperthroidism, the practices are given the incentive to buy Felimazole (made by Dechra Pharmaceuticals who own the lab I work at) because they get free Total T4 monitoring.

And Liphook have to send us all their Equine pregnancy tests anyway so :p :D

Please be aware peeps that this offer is ONLY for new horses! I've already had a £15 off voucher from them 6 months ago when my horse was found to be ACTH count of 200. My understanding is that the ACTH levels, and hence the pergolide dosage, changes spring and autumn. When I saw the advice on here, I went straight to print off another voucher thinking it was a new offer because of the changing dosage rate. No such luck. The small print says quite clearly, only for new horses :-(
