Has he been recently clipped in that photo? he's not very hairy there.

have a small welsh pony whom I am sure has cushings but has had no blood test as yet. tried Homonize which is sold as a help for moody mares but it has the same ingredient agnus castus and is for hormone problems which of course is what cushings is . It has on the back of the bottle that it can be used for Cushings I have tried it for a few months but not to say if it did any good. It is also sold as Vitex so if you google Vitex you will get more info-hope this helps.

My gelding who is a suspected cushingoid (not tested) is currently on Vitex for Equids. It's made by the same company that produces Formula 4 Feet. My old cushingoid mare was treated using Hormonise which was also a fantastic product used alongside another supplement called Cushaid. My gelding has only been on the Vitex a fairly short time and i have already noticed his demeanour change somewhat and is losing his winter coat by the bucketload. If you need anymore info, don't hesitate to PM me. The Vitex is available online and includes free next day delivery. Excellent service!!

I feed my Cushings horse on CushX which is Angus Cactus. Not sure if it helps as he is on Pergolide as well

Must say you are very good in taking on a horse with this condition as it can be such a worry

The main worry being the risk of Laminitis, so be careful of his access to grass

..... I would suggest that the Pasture Mix may need to be removed from his diet (as it may not be suitable, but you could call the maker for advise

) .... although it looks like you are maybe moving him over to HH, Mollichop and Speedybeet, so that sounds good

Yeah he came on pasture mix and chaff so im tryin to drop this gradually. His grass is from 6 am to 6 pm but the field is poor so he isnt actually getting that much and he has a medium haynet at night im just concerned about if he drops his weight. When they said its poss for him to have cushings i was like '' well it isnt the end of the world'' but now im like arrrrrrrgh he has C omg omg lol daft of us to worry i know. He has natural balance shoes on just his front which the farrier recommended we wil have to see how he goes x

I struggle to keep the weight on my old boy as he is only allowed very little grass turnout (about 1 hour a day
crazy.gif
)... due to the higher risk of Laminitis. I have to soak his hay to ensure that all the goodness is taken out of it
crazy.gif
.... so by doing this he ends up eating the equivilant of paper

.

I struggle to get him to eat the High Fibre Nuts he is allowed .... it can be a bit of a battle really

It does not help that age and Cushings combined mean that there is a re-distribution of weight and they change shape

... mine is coming up to 27 now!

The symptoms for Cushions Disease are: Excess thurst, patchy sweating on the body, retention of winter coat (can't molt). You will need your Vet to do a Dexamethasone Suppression test, this is taken as 2 blood tests, 2 visits. The only drug that help inhibit the symptoms is Perglide. The herbal products don't tend to work unfortunately but because Perglide is expensive to produce and supply a lot of owners make the dreaded decision to put to sleep. Hope this is of some help to you.
