Cushionbed. Has anyone used.

Due to the fact that this winter shavings may be increasing dramatically in price. We are considering using Cushionbed. Just wondered if anyone has used it and if so their thoughts. I have in the past used Nedzbedz. It is in anyway similar. Am currently on shavings.
 
I havent used it but i went to have a look at it at the place that the make and distribute it. I was drawn to it by the very reasonable price but if im honest i wasnt impressed with what i saw. In the pictures it looks similar to flax bedding but in actual fact its more like woodchip, i would rather put it on my school than in my stable! Saying that, they showed us round the stables they were using it in and it did look ok but the theory is you have to deep litter so its what you feel about doing that really. Shavings have gone up loads but there is nothing similar! I have found some Bliss for a reasonable price but it will never be the same! Sorry to be so honest but i know i would rather know before buying it.
 
We use it and love it. Not sure how it compares to NedzBedz, but it is a chunkier version of Easibed - small wodchip.
The site had a fire last week though, so whether that will see a price increase I don't know

Still cheaper then shavings though!
 
Most liveries on my yard are on cushionbed. Yes, you are meant to deep litter but many either dig it out weekly or daily and it still is cheaper than shavings. Where were you thinking of getting it from? We buy it direct (also in Lancashire) and they are really good at doing shared loads to the same area. We dont need any more for a while but i'd def say its worth trying, I've also used NedzBed and find the Cushionbed better.
 
Not too sure. YO will be getting it. She is getting some samples for us all to have a look at and see what we think. Have to wait and see I suppose.
 
We use laysoft which is similar to cushionbed - chunkier pieces than easibed and find it brilliant - much better than easibed.

We were on shavings but changed as it's cheaper.

OH's really messy mare is miles cleaner on it as it makes a much more stable bed than shavings which doesn't kick around so she doesn't trample poo/wee in all the time.

My clean horse is as clean as ever but doesn't scrape down to the floor getting up as he used to.

It also works very well mixed with bedmax so you can swap gradually rather than fork out for a new bed.

Muck heap is miles smaller as it drops through fork better.

We do a full muck out every day and throw it up against the walls and works fine, our supplier deep litters it and again works fine
 
I tried it and hated it. Unless your horse is very clean it doesn't work that well, isn't that absorbant so not great for deep litter and very heavy to work with. I went back to shavings, even though they cost me maybe a bale a week more I can keep them clean and she has a nice fluffy bed.
 
I use it for my mare & love it. I skip it out a few times a day & muck out fully once a week. It doen get a bit heavy when it's wet but i find she's much cleaner on it than straw (not tried normal shavings as i have a real hatred of them

), it makes a good, deep bed and any wee sinks right to the bottom so she doesnt stand in wet bits during the day. Cant rate it highly enough, plus it's less than half the price i can pay for normal shavings around here. We had a few ponies on it last winter and they would all lie down & roll on it so must be comfortable enough too
