After my post yesterday I decided that I'm not happy with the fit of the chaps I just received. I'm trying to decide what to do. I've looked and I've seen so many bad reviews for most chaps I thought maybe I'd go the custom route so I know they'll fit my leg but I can't find anyone who does custom chaps outside of the US. I'm guessing I'm just not searching correctly. Any suggestions?

Did quick google using ‘made to measure half chaps’ as search term and there are quite a few uk companies that do it.

Have you tried looking on leatherworking forums?

Or if you're up for it, you could make your own. Half chaps have got to be among the simplest things you could make.

Since you already have a pair to study, you could probably work out a pattern that reduces the amount of stitching to just one seam or even (I'm sure I've seen somewhere) no stitching at all.

That's if you go for a pair that laces up.

Buckle and strap fastening will require a small amount of stitching, and zip fastening will require two long lines of stitching on each half chap.

I don't know if these would work as half chaps, but you could take a look at the leather gaiters that beaters wear to protect their legs from gorse and brambles.
