I looked in Axey's mouth yesterday and he has cut it quite badly, obviously where he pulled back so much before his reins broke.
What is the best thing to put on it? I put vaseline on and turned him out.

Salt will help clear it quickly, i know it sounds a little harsh but it does help

How did he manage to cut it?

Maybe a stronger bit is needed so you won't have to pull back so hard.

My girl did this the other weekend after pulling so hard round XC. I heard that vaseliene (sp) is not too good, but i was told to use blistex, or other good brand lip balms as they also have a cream to moisturise (SP again!) the skin!

My ginger has a very sensitive mouth and it splits easily. Haemorroid gel (preparation H) works really well at healing it and I would recommend putting a lot of salt in his feed to encourage him to salivate it more as that will promote healing too

Anusol hon (yes the stuff you put on your bottom!!)
It drys the cut out and shrinks it really quickly it will also toughen the skin up. I've got some (that I used on my old horse - honestly

) I'll leave it out for you.

I bought a horse a couple of years ago who had been ridden in a twisted wire curb bit. After the first time riding her at home, when I was taking her bridle off, I happened to spot at the inside of her lips on both sides, she had manky wounds which looked like they had been there for a couple of days, pre- me buying her. I used Protocon and rode her in a hackamore until they had healed.
