My horse has was kicked about 1 week ago on her hind leg just under the hock on the outside. It wasnt swollen at the time and had no heat. It scabbed over but when she was in the field alot of dirt got stuck on the scab and it became quite thick.

The scab has now come off in the field somehow, and the cut (about 2 inch high , 1 inch across) looks pretty raw , I washed it with saline and put intrasite gel on and a dressing to keep it clean. I've bandaged back legs and kept her in , this morning it looked bit better but still sore.
Tomorrow do you think i should take the bandage off and let air at it? but keep her in to avoid mud?

Sounds big enough to have warrented stitching - so I would have had the vet I think.

Maybe think about getting one now to be on the safe side???

Thanks yeah by the time I saw it a scab had formed so thought it would be o.k but now she scab has come right off.
Vet is coming out to look at another horse later so he's going to take a look.
