Cut or pulled mane?

I prefer the look of a pulled mane to a cut one but then I also prefer to not have my face broken by my mare who really does not approve of mane pulling

Some people can cut a mane and make it looked pulled. I have no idea how they achieve this, no matter what way I cut her mane you can tell it's been cut.

Backcomb, but the bit you would normally pull, cut it instead just below the "knotted" bit that you have just backcombed

I can't even brush the mud out without getting my face bitten off, so I'm not going to attempt pulling! I don't see an issue with cutting the mane, but i do like them a bit longer than most, and I am a hairdresser so I do cut into it and make it look less bowl cut like
