:rolleyes::mad::mad:
Neighbourhood web site this morning. "Please can someone give this cute fluffy 1 year old akita boy the loving family home he needs". His breeder apparently sold him to a trusted home where he was malnourished which caused his paws to not form properly. He is back with the breeder after one year and breeder looking for help to rehome....

Loads of posts saying give to breed rescue. I said why would a breeder sell a deformed dog in the first place and surely malformation of feet is something that happens during the uterus formation not due to feeding? No! I am wrong it is cruelty and a feeding problem.

The woman concerned may or may not be the breeder but keeps says "cute" "fluffy" "loving". No mention of huge (picture shows huge male adult akita), strong, potentially difficult breed not suited to a young family or inexperienced owners. He won't be able to be insured if he has deformed feet and vets bill potentially may be large - no mention of this.
The suggestions of breed rescue are being ignored by the poster and the questions as to if he is entire, exactly what the foot problem is, and why he was returned to breeder have also been ignored.

No one has yet been brave enough to suggest PTS though it might be an option better than some of the possible outcomes.

A man from Croydon (miles from here) has posted HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT FOR HIM - which shows exactly where a dog like this is going to end up unless he is very lucky - a shouty person in an urban environment who is interested in cost and nothing else.
Heartbreaking.:(:mad:

I know just from lurking on the FB vet pages that inappropriate nutrition as a pup can cause some really scary looking leg deformities. What I don't know is if they can self correct at a year old, it might be too late. What a very very sad situation for the pup.

The problem is "deformed feet" could cover a multitude of issues, some caused by genetics, some developmental/nutritional, some injury/accident. Some potential issues may cause problems/pain/lameness now, some will become an issue in the future, some may not. Most of these issues are not with the paws themselves, but further up the limb.

Without more information, it is impossible to know.

What is unfortunately true though, is that at 1 yo all the important growth plates will have closed, and surgical correction is the only option left...if it were needed/possible.

There are several developmental problems which can occur in normal growing puppies due to accidents or inappropriate nutrition which can cause uneven growth of the leg bones.
Ah thank you I had assumed they were prebirth developmental problems from the way the woman had posted. However advertising a one year old Akita on a neighbourhood site as fluffy and cute looking for family seems, to me an absolutely huge risk for the dog to end up in the wrong home. From what people have said there may well be vet bills ahead too but this is not flagged on the advert either. I just feels so sorry for him.
