My dog has been diagnosed with Cyclic Alopecia and looks a bit of a mess, resembling an old worn out rug.
The vet says there is no treatment for it and that new hair will start to grow. Does anyone know how long it is likely to take?

Ahhhhha! welocme to the expert on the baldy club!!!!!
Our dog has recurrent cyclical alopecia on the flanks. Melatonin has been used abroad with some success but as it doesn't bother our dog in the slightest and just makes him look scruffy and tatty, we left it. We had all the tyroid tests done and sought top professional advice.
Our Wolfhound is thinning now again and by May he will have total hair loss on his flank patches. By October all hair had grown back with some discolouration I.e/ mainly dark hairs instead of Brindle. If you need any more help please feel free to ask.

Many thanks for the advice.

A couple of questions for you :-

How often does the condition occur, yearly or whenever?

Is it inherited from the parents or does it just appear on an ad-hoc basis?

Best Regards
