Me and OH have the same big birthday coming up in October. We have booked a luxury holiday in Cyprus. Now I look at the map and it’s just over 200 miles from Israel and 260 miles from Gaza.

The government has advised against travel to Israel and Iran is threatening to attack British military bases if the UK supports Israel.

I’m getting alarmed about it. What do I do?

ETA I’ve looked on the Government Cyprus travel advice page and it has a warning that hostilities could spread. Arrgh!
 
Well, Cyprus could be a target, but it has been kicking off in the Middle East for a long time now, and Cyprus is still there.

If I was getting alarmed about he situation, then I would look at going somewhere else. Are you going to be relaxing and enjoying your holiday, or constantly checking news sites, listening out for jets and worrying?
 
October is a way off and as @Beausmate says the situation over there hasn't been great for a long time now. It may all have settled back down to the regular level of hostility by then, or it might all kick off :-(

For me it would depend on the T&Cs of your current booking, and how late it's possible to leave changing the booking without financial penalty. I would probably check all of that and put together a viable backup plan that you can switch to if you're still not happy with the situation by X date.

They're updated extremly regularly, sometimes multiple times a day, and read up on what the dos and donts of the country, which is all on the same link. As @Beausmate says only you can decide whether you'll be happy in that location. I personally wouldn't be going anywhere near that part of the world for a number of reasons.
 
Where abouts are you going to be staying in Cyprus? The announcement in the last day or so about extra jets being deployed by the UK - the article I read said they will be stationed at RAF Akrotiri, but that's away from the holiday resorts of Paphos / Coral Bay etc, but reasonably close to Limassol.
 
Well Cyprus has British bases there, ! But closer to the time , if the Government advise not to go , I think you will get choice to move holiday or cancel and refunded.
Or ask to move to somewhere else like Canary Islands, think it’s a small charge to change holiday.
If you are iffy about it, I would change destination.

We are going to Paphos.

I think we will wait and see what happens over the next few weeks but I am dithering.
