cyst causing sinus problems....

Anyone any experience?

Tried antibiotics - runny nose, slight swelling below one eye which is permanently blood shot, making a heavy breathing sound when moving. Antibiotics didn't work so vet thinks maybe a cyst is present, will scope her.

Will horse have to go to horse hospital to have it removed? I assume they can't just drain it as will grow back?

My horse had exactly this - sinusitis which wouldn't clear up by antibiotics so she was referred to a vet hospital. When they put the camera in, they found a mass which they believed to be a cyst. They removed it and sent her home after a week of flushing the sinuses, believing that they had cured it. It started again - worse than ever so I took her back to my vet who referred her to the vet hospital again(I really hope that if your horse has to go to hospital, it isn't the same one that I took mine to - PM me if you're going to have to go to hospital and I will tell you of my experience there!).
I asked them to x-ray to find out whether it was tooth related, as even though I'm no vet, it's common sense that if something like this continues, then it is possibly tooth related. Anyway, after much arguing and the vet telling me it definitely wasn't an abscess I had to almost plead for her to do x-rays. She did, however there was so much pus blocking the view of bone that they had to trephine her and flush her for 4 days before they could take an x-ray of which they could see the teeth clearly. They then found a tooth abscess (who'd have believed it?), tried to remove the tooth, make a cock up of that when they fractured the crown and had to rush her into surgery for a general anaesthetic. The infection got worse and she contracted pseudomonas and a streptococcal infection and was there for nearly three months. If the discharge is unilateral, then if I were you I would be asking for x-rays of the mouth. Good luck, I hope you have a better experience than I did!
