My poor Golden Retriever had us up at 2am, needing a wee. She NEVER barks during the night so she must have been desperate. However, she kept squatting and wandering, squatting and wandering repeatedly getting quite frantic. I've stayed home with her today so she can go out in the garden if she wants.
I've taken her to the vets and they've said its a fairly bad case of cystitis - her urine was full of blood :( poor girl, we only managed to get a 0.3ml urine sample from her from 7am this morning!!

She's on ABs and the vet has given her a shot of antiinflammatories for her bladder and steroids to make her thirsty - how can I encourage her to drink more? I've put ice cubes in her water, which she loves but she just fishes them out and makes a big mess all over the floor :p

My poor girl :(

If she is having dry dog food I would moisten it and how about making her some watery beef soup or something similar without any added salt.

Hope she is feeling better soon as she must have been in quite a bit of pain.

Milk! a large bowl of water and let her watch you pour the milk into the bowl (you only need a splash) it rarely fails, they think something new and delicious is going in there, I can get my rotti drinking loads this way and the inpatients at work;)

Haha montyforever and dobiegirl you gave me the idea and Cayla, that's just what I did! :)
She didn't seem too impressed by the idea but she's had a whole bowl of water with a bit of milk, so hopefully it should start to flush her system through.
