Hi
Opinions please?, am looking for something to add to / replace what my horse is getting fed at the moment- I have a limited choice at livery yard he is at - 'white label' H&P cubes, oats or 'white label' mix ( kept in a 1/2 ton bag which all our furry friends can get into each night.. so not feeding that!). Currently is on just the nuts, but am considering getting some of my own feed in - as this will be on top of the livery I am paying at the moment, is going to be tight on the budget, but he can run up light and he has lost a little weight already in the last month.
I am considering getting some of the D&H build up mix and perhaps adding some Sugarbeet and/or Alfalfa to this ..

Any comments re the build up mix would be good, or if anyone has some alternative feeds they think are better.

thanks in advance :-)

Just for added info, he is out max 2 hours a day (not by choice.. but the germans don't do all day turn out!)
- I try to make sure he has ad lib hay
- 16.1hh Trakehner - so doesn't need hotting up
- schooling 4 days a week (1 hour)
- jumping 2 days a week / or 1 x jumping 1 x competition (SJ or D or ODE)

hello, when my horse lost a bit of condition i put him on build up and found that it really worked well, but you do have to feed to the manufacturors recommendations for it to work properly, whci for my 17hh warmblood was a monstrous amount of feed. Anyway, after he put weight back on I stopped the build up, went back to regular mix and put oil in his feeds instead which has kept him up to weight. I dont think he would have got back to condition as quickly if I hadn't used the build up and just used oil. So I would say its a good option, also didn't make him loony.

Thanks everyone.. managed to source some here in Germany and am off to buy some tomorrow ..

- trying to convince them they also need to start stocking Dengie Alfalfa products to and they have agreed to get some for the next Equine exhibition
