Looking at changing my gelding onto D&H ERS Pellets as Baileys Number 4 Isn't keeping up with his workload (especially as it has just been upped!)

I'd like to keep him level headed and down to earth, and the 7% starch level is making me favour this feed over Baileys Number 6 (22% starch)

Also been reading it reduces tying up with would be very beneficial to him as he ties up quite badly.

Has anyone had any experiences with this feed?

I have my boy on these... he has muscle problems and lacks energy (but goes stupid on oats and is sensitive to sugar) he is on 2/3 of a kg a day and he is nice and sane but with a bit more oompf. Definitely worth a go if you ask me!

Thanks!
The only thing putting me off is the ridiculous amount I have to feed, I've worked it out and he will need 4KG a day (according to D&H) a 20KG sack will last him 5 days.

It's a good feed. 4kg is really racehorse rations, do you really need that much?!
try combining with coolstance copra which is an economical way of adding calories for horses with muscle issues.

I divided it between his bodyweight but I'm just going off the D&H website, But i'm guessing no since it's racehorse portions. He'll probably need 2KG a day if that's the case :) and I've never heard of Coolstance Copra, what is it? (Sorry feeding rookie here!)

Coolstance copra is essentially dried coconut white. Comes in a powder form, you soak it and feed it as a mash a bit like SB. It's very low starch/sugar and high fibre/oil - google it!

Just looked at the distributors, they'll all absolutely miles away and I don't have access to a car. The feel itself sounds brilliant.
Any places where I can buy it online?

I used to be able to buy it by the pallet load and get it sent to me... there are more than one manufactures of the stuff it may well be that your feed merchant can get it in for you :D

To be honest with you I very much doubt you will need to feed 4kg a day... thats like 4 scoops a day... LOTS... I have noticed a big difference in my boy on just 2/3 of a scoop a day so I really cant see you needing to feed more than 2 scoops a day.

I am on the fence with the copra... but it might be fine for you as you want to keep your horse calm... I was advised to feed 1kg a day and I didn't even get up to 1/2 a kg a day before I realised that it really wasn't helping my boy's energy levels and it was making feeds really quite big, and was going to be a pain in the backside once winter really sets in when it comes to soaking (it needs at least an hour to soak)... oh and it's a pain in the backside to get hold of!!!

If you're struggling with weight then I would add a mug of micronised linseed to a reduced quantity of ERS pellets... This is what I do though my boy is a fairly good doer...
