Following on from the other thread describing the fall involving the runnaway horse. My foot and lower leg were becoming more painful by Wednesday (5 days on) and the swelling was still very bad, so I had it checked-out (finally). Anyway ... a break wasn't evident on an Xray, but the doc said he wasn't "convinced because it shouldn't be like this 6 days (yesterday) on". So I'm in plaster and will be reviewed in 3 weeks.

I'm really fed-up. Its more painful now to get about than it was before the plaster. God knows when I'll be back in the saddle and when I am, will I be nervous and phobic (I had a bad accident a couple of years ago and smashed my arm up badly and my nerve has been a bit fragile since then!). I feel the need for a good winge - sorry folks and thanks for reading.

Great start to the new year eh? Oh well at least 'tis the season to hibernate'!

Oh poor you!

Perhaps when you get back to riding get some rides on a really quiet type

I agree with the hibernation - lots of books and films

Fortunately, my mare is lovely and a quiet type, it wasn't her fault. A horse that had dumped its rider came galloping past us very close and scared Flora. Then it all went a bit pear shaped

you'll be fine..get back on asap... i had a bad break 14yrs ago..still paying for it... did i give up? No, did i get all nervous and jittery? well yes actually!! but got over it...just had me hip replaced and when i can will be getting back on again!!!

If a break is revealed when the swelling subsides, hope all goes well and no complications stand in your way!!!

Poor you! A plastered leg is a real pain - at least it is only below the knee I am guessing? I had a full leg plaster a couple of years ago and it was horrible

. At least it is only for 3 weeks and it should feel a lot better.

I know exactly how you feel the thursday before xmas i jumped down a curb and dislocated my knee have got a brace on to immobilise it, at least you have a good story for yours i just tripped down a step which isnt very impressive! Are you managing to do your horse ok?? I have spent the last week educating unhorsey oh about turnout, rugs and lunging, although spending a bit of time down the yard am slightly worried he may notice how many rugs and how much stuff i have!!
Keep your chin up 3 weeks will fly by
xx

You lot are so lovely, funny how some cheery words from fellow horsey types can help at times like this

Aww poor you i know how you feel. I broke my leg and collar bone back in August and took 8 weeks for the leg to heal, but my collar still isn't mended, 4 and 1/2 months later! Haven't been able to ride or do my horse. I hope your better soon, feel free to PM me if you want to winge I know how it feels!

You poor thing!

I had my lower leg broken a couple of years ago, was out hacking, my horses started going loopy, so did another, the other kicked out both barrels, missed my horse and kicked me instead, then mine bolts into oncoming car, oh joy!

Went to hospital as you could see the bone in my leg, mmm! Stupid doc didnt even x ray, just stapled it up and I went back to work (at the yard) a week later. Couldnt put any weight on it, was having to lean on horses to turn out and bring in, not a good move with semi wild youngsters ha ha!

Anyway after 3 months still no better, turns out my leg had been fractured and because the doc didnt xray thats why I was in so much pain.
It took a year to heal and even now it still hurts because the bone has mended funny, and because I was using it while it was fractured.

ho hum, the joys of riding eh!

I coudlnt ride for a year, was very nervous when I got back on, however my confidence on the ground had increased no end.

Why do we do this again? It must be a form of madness

Did your nervousness improve when you had been back on a few times?
