d.og loves hedgehogs!

Just thought I'd venture over here from NL to see if anyone else has a dog that does what mine does!
He's a 6yr old golden retriever, not a working dog, just a pet - over the past year he has become obsessed with hedgehogs! Once he picks up a scent of one he's off, & no amount of shouting him will get him to come back (any other time he is straight back when called) he will follow the scent until he finds it then brings it back to me! Never hurts them (have no idea how he doesn't hurt himself!) just drops them at my feet - then I have a night of de-fleaing!! Even when he is sat in the house he knows when there is one outside & goes crazy to get out!!
 
I have a JRT who always knows when there is one in the garden. She sits and growls at the back door. If I let her out she runs over and nudges them until they roll into a ball then just sort of grumbles to them for a while. She also never hurts them. She does love it if they run through the flower beds though - she loves a good chase:) I also worry about fleas but have not had the problem yet.
 
Ours would be the same two petdogs one Lab type the other Collie/Hound type just love harassing them . They know ifs theres one coming through the garden and start barking at the hedge , usually after midnight.:rolleyes:
Had a Daschund who used to carry huge ones into her bed and didn't like me putting them back outside.
Poor hedgehogs life must be tiresome for them.:eek:
 
Make sure all flea and worming treatments are up to date, 'hogs are filthy and carry parasites :o

ETA, just saw you do :p

They have a type of flea unique to hedgehogs, meh!
