I won't say too much in case it's construed as advertising, but I have a nice, tidy V reg DAF with 11 months' MOT on eBay for just under £10k buy it now, or offers...and so far it's been on twice and I haven't had a single offer! No-one will even offer me £1 for it!

Is it just the economy i.e. no-one wants 7.5 ton any more, or am I way off with my price? It's also on horsemart & preloved at the same price & I've had no enquiries from either.

I'm a bit down about it to be honest. It was a difficult enough decision to make my mind up to sell it as I get very attached to my things, & now I can't even give it away!

Okay I'll offer you £1 and two sticky toffees I've just found in my pocket for it. All jokes aside it must be really frustrating. The problem is I think that with the cost of fuel etc people are cutting down on travelling. If the oil prices keep dropping and fuel gets to a more reasonable level that might kickstart the market again.

Good luck with finding a buyer. Might be that you need to take a hit on price to get some money back, unless you can afford to hang on a bit in which case I would.

I've had a quick look for it and i can't seem to find anything in the listings that looks like the one you've described. Are you sure it's coming up in the listings when people search?.

It expired at around 8 am & I've just this second relisted it. It had 74 views so I s'pose people could find it & then decided against it!

It's a fab lorry & is running very sweetly atm, but I need a car (divorced last year & ex took both cars), new husband needs a 'van' for his plastering business plus we need horse transport, so it makes sense to have a 3 in 1 vehicle. He changed day jobs recently so was in between works vans, & we had to do the station run (I work in the City) a few times in the DAF! Also had to take it into town to go to the bank!!

TheresaW, I feel your pain! It sounds stupid, but it feels a bit 'personal' when you've got a nice thing that you've enjoyed having, & then no-one else is interested in it. I know I should realise that it's just the economy, blah blah, but it's hurting my feelings!

I recently learnt a valuable lesson. Nothing to do with horse boxes but I have placed several adverts recently with an almost nil response. So I've changed tack and posted on several free advert sites and also put a video of some livestock on YouTube (not horses). Had a very good response and 103 hits on the video in 24 hours!

So don't give up, just try a different approach. Google is your friend! Oh, and of course you'll get the usual time wasters and tyre kickers but that's all part of selling, at least you get confirmation that you've been noticed!

Try an auction for the horse box starting at £1 with a reserve? You can also do a search on line to get a valuation for your vehicle, it doesn't cost much. Good luck!

That's exactly how I feel, especially as I don't really want to sell it.

Its title is Leyland DAF 7.5 ton and I will very happily PM the link to anyone who's interested...even *remotely* interested... ;-)

First up you need to get something along the lines of 'Horse Box Lorry' in the title, otherwise your vehicle doesn't come up in searches of those people specifically wanting horseboxes. You may find a lot of your viewing are from people with no interest in horses at all and specifically on the hunt for DAF chassis.
I would suggest amend title to
'Leyland DAF Horsebox. V reg. 3 horse.'

The photos you use are good and the lorry looks to be in good condition and well maintained.
I think the one main stumbling clock is that there is no luton, for me that was a must have when I recently purchased a lorry, despite the fact that I was likely to be staying overnight in the vehicle for 5-10 days a year!

Although your price isn't unreasonable for the age and condition of your wagon, I do think that if you wish to shift it you should maybe look to drop the price. I'd suggest starting at 7000 no reserve

Thanks for the feedback! I have now amended the title.

When I had it built, I specifically didn't want a luton as I couldn't be a**ed with messing about it order to tilt. I've had a non tilting TK which was so much of a pain that I can't begin to describe it. If you've got something that's addicted to breaking down, the b*gg*r at least needs to tilt! And my roadrunner that I had before the DAF had a luton & *would* tilt, but it was like doing origami with plywood. I wanted an easy tilter, plus I never stay away!

We shall see if I get any more interest with the amended title.

Agree entirely with IHW, I am always noseying at horseboxes on eBay and yours hadn't come up in my searches at all. I think the lack of a cutthrough cab does put some people off (I don't have a cut through on mine but some people won't go without) and also people do like a Luton but I think your lorry looks in lovely condition - I'm sure someone will come along for it but the Market isn't great at the moment at all. May just take time.

Agree that tilt is a huge priority for me.... But I don't need to be able to tilt it myself ;) so mine has the origami set up you describe. I also had a TK previously but TKs never tilt do they? Mine didn't seem to have the mechanism to tilt, just the hatches either side?
Your lorry looks very similar to a friends one and theirs does have a cut through but no Luton.
Best of luck with the new title I'm sure you'll get more interest - I sold my old TK through adverts on local RC websites so that might be another place to try?

OK this is my take on it if you don't mind.

Firstly, retitle it to include "horsebox".

Secondly, whilst the blurb includes all the necessary I have found that seeing more description tends to make people feel they are getting more for their money - might sound daft but that seems to be how their minds work. So to that end I've added some waffle and made comments where I think more information might get you some viewers. Also I'd increase the font size a little! Here is my suggestion:

Leyland DAF 130Ti 7.5 ton. Ex John Lewis lorry so has been maintained regardless of cost, professionally converted about 4 years ago. Fantastic runner. Drives well, being light round town but happy to cruise at legal speeds on long runs. Is so easy to drive in town that I've been happy to use it for shopping trips and day to day when my car has been off the road. Brilliant to start, getting me out and about through the dreadful winter last year, has heated mirrors which is one of those unconsidered trifles that just make your life that bit easier on frozen mornings. Used regularly once or twice a week for horse trips as well as being car substitute when required. Cab tilts fully & easily (your mechanic will thank you). MOT to April 2012; taxed till November 2011. Ready to drive away & enjoy.

Unladen weight: XXXX Giving a payload of: XXXX It might be a faff to get it to a weighbridge but if you can get a reasonable payload figure it is a big plus point.

Partitioned for 3 horses, (add dimensions!) Rubber floor and wall mats, white wipe-clean material above, including partitions and headguards, giving a light and inviting space. Ramp is very solid but well sprung so is light and easy to lift.

Day living is smart and clean and consists of a full height cupboard/wardrobe, 3 modern kitchen cupboards & a storage bench seat so plenty of space for all the bits and bobs. Laminate floor so no need to worry about muddy boots.

External tack locker with double doors giving easy access to rack for two saddles and bridle rack as well as plenty of extra storage space.

Please contact seller to arrange viewing before end of auction.

One comment on the photos. The straight on views of the ramp. If you could bear to get out there with a can of paint and quickly tidy up the "step" the picture would look a lot nicer.

I hope this doesn't sound interfering, it's intended only to be helpful.

I appreciate the assistance! I really did want help, & I will amend the text of the advert in a bit. Atm I'm sick of the bl**dy thing! Plus I can see it from here every time I look out of the window! Out to a jumping lesson in it later on today.

Just amending the title has helped as I have 3 watchers already. Yay! Come on, watchy people...make an offer!!

I'd also want to know the length of the entire thing, plus the dimensions of each of the areas. I've put an offer in to make you feel wanted, lol! Also I'd prefer more power than 130 on account of living up a mountain!

Ah thankies!!

I measured the horse area earlier so I'll add those dimensions too.

Lots of great ideas! Now, why didn't I try asking everyone on here *before* I'd had it not sell two weeks running...?? Might have saved a lot of angst!

If I remember correctly it is a cracking little lorry. I was well impressed with it. We met near Weston Hertfordshire while I was hacking my horse out. Do you know how long it is from the front bumper to the rear of the container? Please E-mail me peter.natt@btinternet.com

Belt tightening is probably the reason, Daf running costs at approx 20mpg (am guessing) diesel at £1.40 per litre? Unfortunately that says it all! I was thinking about a lorry last year but due to finances and diesel opted to keep my truck and updated my trailer instead. Sorry to be the spectre of doom. :)

Not easy to sell anything at the moment so dont beat yourself up about it I sold my lorry because needed to pay some bills had stupid offers, people with no money or wanting to trade something and a couple of wanabe self builders who hadent got a clue how much work and money it takes to put one together in the end I sold it over the phone for almost the asking price to a guy from kent who was over the moon and very pleased... so keep the faith and change the title on the ebay listing during the listing so it atracts more searches always start with Horse box then .... stalled for ? living, mot tax, great cond ready to go, make and size etc or dont sell and buy a banger car to run round in and a cheaper van for the bussiness ... perhaps

Okay, just been back out with my tape measure and I think that the body measures 18 ft & the cab another 5 ft 6, making 23 ft 6 from front bumper to the back of the horse area. Something else to add to the advert...

Peter, I def rem meeting you...I've got photos of that day! My uncle died recently & I was sorting out his house in Weston & got really nostalgic to hack out around the area, esp that long bridleway from Clothall to Cromer.

Don't s'pose you fancy hacking out? I am off work the week after next, so if I've got transport of one sort or another & if you're about during the day? I now have an ex racer who can be a bit giddy, so I'm not sure if you would fancy hacking out with me? He is usually okay if I take it steady until he's settled, but I wouldn't trust him to behave if yours is giddy too!

Oh thank you, Perfect11s. It's a bit depressing when you only get daft offers/comments about your pride & joy, so I'm glad it's not just me. I would really like someone to have it who would enjoy it & have fun in it, rather than it going under sufferance to a dealer who doesn't really want it. Yes, I know, it's not a horse, but still...!! I want someone to love it!

While you're here, Toyota Landcruiser for towing...? Yay, nay...? (It goes without saying that I won't be able to park it...)

Yes will be fine ... no make that very good however all those bigger 4x4s discovery, shogun, cherokee etc are expensive to run 30 mpg if you drive sensibly and servicing tyres and anything after about 2006 think its £425
a year for tax!!!! so im convinsed a lorry is cheaper unless you only do a tiny mileage and then its borderline, lorry cheaper to tax and insure and unless its a wreck they fly the test.. just taken friends lorry a tatty leyland daf one head lamp bulb check over and a grease up and 12 more monthes plate!!!! .. and once your used to a lorry a trailer is a PIA unless its a fancy equitrec then its the price of your lorry... so think about 6 months time will you regret selling im working hard to replace mine and to be honest it would cost more than I got for it to get one as good...

I'm another one who likes looking at boxes on ebay and dreaming!

I always like to see measurements, especially headroom.

Do you think the buy it now puts people off? Might be better to put a low start price with a reserve instead or a higher starting price which keeps costs down.

Preloved is very popular for buying and selling at the moment.

Ive got a leyland Daf for sale also, it has a luton and a cut through cab and ive also had no response what so ever, its reasonably priced as well :-(
Its also been advertised on H&H as well and when they rang me to see how i was getting on they couldnt believe that i hadnt had any interest :-/

Its really getting me down i desperatly want to take my boy out and about :-(

OP hope you manage to sell your lorry soon x

OMG, people, 143 views & 11 watchers! That's more in one day than I've previously had over the 2 separate weeks put together!!

Perfect11s - don't say that! I really don't want to sell it as it's been a good friend & I do get very attached to my things! I've had enough of being carless & in the sticks.

Tico - I would suggest that you pop yours on eBay again & follow the suggestions that I've been given from people on here. It really has amde the most amazing amount of difference. Incidentally my wedgwood plates haven't sold for the 2nd time, so if anyone has any ideas...??
