DAF OR IVECO HORSE LORRY?

Did you have a choice in the chasis when you got your daf? To be honest, I'm swaying towards Daf as I was told it doesn't rust as easily as the Iveco

No, we didn't - it came as it was :) Its our first lorry so we wanted something simple and easy to drive, and she's just great - drives like a (big!) car. I've been driving the lorry with 3 ponies loaded and its been great.

DAF! Reliable and easy to work on. Mine is 22 years old, passed its plating on Tuesday with flying colours and mechanic said is in better nick underneath than much newer ones. Also said she's got plenty of years left in her. Love her!

We have a DAF 45 she is getting a bit now but is awesome...and so easy to drive and fast. Really tight turning circle too. We took the container off our Bedford TL and put it on the Daf. However, I have heard that the newish ones which are more electronic are harder for your average chap round the corner to work on due to things being computer controlled...bit like new cars I guess.

After the Bedford which would only do 50 mph downhill with a following wind, it is nice to have something that does 65 plus with ease.

Is there much difference in price?
If not, Id have the DAF, saying that, Im on my 3rd Iveco, all have drove differently, 1st knotchy gearbox, 2nd, swimming gearbox, 3rd .... nice!
None have let me down, started first time everytime (touches wood). One mechanic hated Iveco, the other liked them.

DAF over Iveco!! Have been warned by everyone to stay clear of the Ivecos as they tend to rust very easily and mechanics hate them, DAFs have a very good reputation, the bits are cheap to replace and they're supposed to be lovely to drive.

Do Scania or Volvo make a 7.5 ton or is the OP looking at a bigger truck

I have a friend who is a supervisor at a Volvo lorry dealership & is in charge of repairs. He says if you want an HGV then certainly have a Volvo as they are terriffic. If you want a 7.5 ton lorry then don't buy a Volvo as they have never made a good one. He says the amount of work they have to do on Volvo 7.5 ton lorries that come in for testing is horriffic & extremely expensive. He advised me when I was looking for a lorry to buy either DAF or IVECO as they were reliable & parts were more readily available, specially used ones, & parts were cheaper.

He also advised to get a tilt cab if possible as they were far easier to work on & thus you have cheaper bills.

Daf it is I think after everyone has recommended it over the Iveco.

Thank you to everyone for all your comments.

Just to add to others comments that I love my Iveco to drive as it is so easy but I have never driven a Daf so can't directly compare. Have heard that Iveco chassis rusts more.

My mechanic's pet hate seems to be the build quality on Equi-trek horseboxes.... and lack of tilt cabs.
