Daughter's horse managed to get stuck over the breast bar of the trailer with his back legs dangling off the floor - then came out through the jockey door and emerged with just a few scrapes and scratches. Two weeks later they were at an eventers' challenge competition with the polyjumps plastic xc jumps and he got his foot caught between the plastic slats of an arrowhead filler. He then reared up and landed and got the other foot caught in it too. He then reared in panic about 3 more times, dancing towards the collecting ring which panicked all the ponies lined up against the ropes to see him waltzing towards them on his back legs waving an arrowhead at them! The only damage he did was knock off a scab from the previous mishap!

This made me laugh. A lot :D

Must have been so scary for his rider though! Wouldn't like to be sat on that!

I was stood with a friends sedate old mare once who was on box rest and her owner was mucking round her. Her gelding was the last one out, so she left me and the wheelbarrow in the doorway with the mare and went to fetch him. As they walked past, placid mare for some reason tried to jump over the barrow, failed, got both back legs through one wheelbarrow 'foot' sideways on, went more mad and bunny hopped around the yard (chasing a little girl, obviously just hoping for human help!) until it eventually flew off into a wall. I thought she was going to break both legs, but she only had some slight swelling and was fine. Scariest thing i have ever seen a horse do, and very lucky.

I have a horse that loves food. So much so he managed to inhale a 4" section of blackthorn hedge, complete with thorns. It wedged in the back of his throat/larynx/pharynx.... we didn't find it for 2 days, as he seemed to have choke, so vet was treating him for that until we realised he wasn't improving. It took a sedation and endoscope to find it, and the vet was so amazed when he finally pulled it out, they took piccies and we were featured in their mag.

I still have the twig. It's going no-where, it cost me nearly £200.

My horse got straddled on a gate in the field, front legs one side and back legs the other!
Thankfully it was a metal gate and so just bowed, rather than splintered and hurt him!
Stood as good as gold while we took the gate down, and walked off a little stiff but none the worse for wear! Bloody horses!

well where do i start?! as a 4yo, he managed to paw at the gate in the field and get his leg caught in it, then got the other leg caught too, and pulled the gate off its hinges and dragged it back 10ft into his field. He wasnt event lame, but is left with big white scars down either side of both front legs.. he was an extreemly lucky chap!

Then about 8months later, he decided to kick out at another horse the other side of the fence, got his back legs caught over the top of the fence and pulled half the skin off his back legs. JUST missed the muscle, so he was very stiff but did no awful damage and the vet came and stitched it up and he was back to normal about 3-4months later if i remember rightly! Heres a pic a week or two after he did it..

We used to have....notice the word used a 5plus foot brick wall between two stables....my TB.Appaloosa decided it would be fun to get wedged over the wall...god knows how he got there, the wall was right on his private parts he was on his tip toes and his front legs were sprawled. I thought he would panic but the moment i touched him he was fine. i got my Dad to come and see...we were debating the fire brigade to take the roof off. However my hero of a father decided to chizzle away the concrete bricks one by one, eventually we managed to push the rest of the wall over and Harvey was free! little swollen but unharmed...amazing!
When i saw him i know its bad but i couldnt help but giggle..... i wish now i had filmed it it was classic!!
Our two stables then turned to one....

Totally off topic but how funny, i have a tb x appaloosa called harvey. And funnily enough he would probably do something like that.
Incidentally he has wrapped himself in electric fencing and royally sliced his leg open.. silly animal!

Good god all your horses are so accident prone!! I dont think i could cope, im always worrying and i dont actually have any reason to, i think id have a heartattack!!
The silliest thing mine has done is get her legs twisted when rolling and getting up, ended up landing on her face. Made me laugh :D

eek thats a sore one :o but how lucky!

My mare tried to scratch her face on one of the hooks that hold electric tape to wooden fence posts, and succeeded in ripping her lower eyelid pretty much off :( 9 stitches later and she was fine, thank god! She could have so easily lost an eye if it wasn;t for someone walking past her field noticing bits of her face hanging off! :(

She has also reversed backwards through the menage fence when she got her foot stuck in her (very ightly twisted) reins when lunging, but luckily didn;t do herself any lasting damage...

OMG this is very similar to what my Haffy did. I'd led my mare out of the field, before going back to him, he panicked at being left on his own and tried to jump out of his field. Thing is he's not very good at jumping, being really really clumsy and unco-ordinated bless him! He got wedged over the gate, with it trapping his private bits :O I didn't have a lovely father to come help though because I'm here on my own, so I had to try to keep him calm, while trying to get him to step sideways off the gate!! Stupidly my phone had no battery either so I couldn't call anyone for help without leaving him and calling from the house with my phone on charge and I didn't want to leave in case he panicked! All in all, it took about half and hour to free him and he was left with a nasty gash down this inside of one hind leg and one front knee :( Silly boy

My old mare was very accident prone, or she got kicked a lot, but crikey she was hardy. Once we called her and she galloped in, on 3 legs! We tried to slow her down, but she was always so excited to see us. She had a big deep cut to her knee, but we then found a really deep cut, and badly bleeding to her 'bits'! Vet definitely said these were kicks and nothing more sinister.
She came in with a massive nail in her hoof, and once a very deep and long cut to her stifle, but she always healed very well tbh.
The worst one really was she was playing with the chain across her stable door with her nose and next thing we know she is stood there with blood running all over the floor and her nostril flapping . She had got it caught in the clip and just ripped it free. Again, she was not that bothered. Have to say the vet did a very good job of it, and within a few weeks you could not even see a scar.
