Daft question about manes

Does anyone know why some horses manes fall to the left and others to the right and some they fall to both sides?

I've never even thought about it before but my friend is doing a Dressage show next weekend and she asked me on which side do her plaits have to be... well I have no idea, I've always had horses where the mane falls to the right so I plaited on the right side. She says they "look wrong" being on the left. I just said "whatever side his mane falls on"... is that right?

no idea if there is a reason why manes fall in different directions but plaits should always be done to the right!

I'm trying to plait my new horses over so that it falls to the right all the time, will be plaiting his to the right for our first dressage comp on saturday
