daihatsu fourtrack

considering getting an old daihatsu fourtrack tds 2.8 to tow trailer and daughters pony for pony club etc. it is old 1991 , approx 100,000 on clock only need for towing as both oh and i have cars for work and cant afford new 4x 4 as every day car as do lots of mileage. ive heard theses described as real workhorses and pretty reliable any one got experience good or bad thanks

I had one, it towed quite happily, if slowly, and they are a good practical car. Be sure to get one with a service history, when 4x4s go wrong it tends to be expensive.

I had one and would have another tomorrow - got a lorry now but only as I need to take three

ours will pull a house down touch wood never had a problem with it,but she does like the juice a bit

Weve had two, G reg and currently a s reg. Both excellent cars. The older one had leaf springs which made me feel 'sea sick' on motorway journeys as it was so bouncy but the newer one is great, my hubby wouldnt swap it for anything. My only advice would be to check the boot for holes, apparantly thats where they rust bad/y and if you can stretch to one 1994 onwards then do as the ride is so so much better as its independant suspension. Made me realise what its like to be a horse travelling in a certain brand of trailer

Oh the 100,000 miles is nothing for a diesel car.

Great workhorses. Mine was an e reg 2 seater commercial. Loved it to bits but it was a bit noisy (rag top so really got wind noise). Went on for years. Main thing is to get a good garage that isn't a daihatsu specialist or they will charge loads.

Have one on recommendation of local farmer who put 300,000 miles on one including lots of towing cattle across fields and general farming abuse. I love it. Have it for towing and everyday transport - drove 280 miles to Dublin and back yesterday and its very comfortable - it just chugs along at about 65mph. No one messes with you either as it looks like a brick on wheels. Its looked after by local mechanic and doesn't cost a fortune as there is no computerised complications. Its just a great big engine on wheels - nothing girly about it! I sailed through the muddiest fields at shows this summer.
