It was actually I they quoted and as usual it was a mis- quote. they missed the whole point of the post, that being, that without Ian to start my youngster off XC i cannot even contemplate eventing. I have lost my trainer and as you know he is irreplacable therefore i have to 'turn my back on eventing' for a while. Safety in the sport was nothing to do with it.
Guys, if you go to the DM's main page, there is an option to give feedback at the top of the page. Maybe everyone should be emailing them to tell them your thoughts. They won't take any notice but it might pi$$ them off for a while having to read through them all
About the only thing that I would believe in the Mail, Express, Sun, Mirror, etc is the date at the top of the front page, and that is only after I have checked with an external source!
The really scary thing is that people who read this rag and believe what it is in it are allowed to vote and to procreate.
I think thats its very sad that this article concentrates on Zara, even putting a picture of her up!
It is an absolute tragedy what has happened, as it always is when someone dies in our sport, but to not even focus on the man himself is disgusting. It would have almost been better if they didn't print anything at all.
It shocks me that British journalism has sunk so low.
I am shocked by this, it is the daily mail but even so - where was any need for Zara's name to appear let alone in the headline or include a picture of her.
I was going to email them the link to this thread asking if they'd like to quote us again........unfortunately everytime I click feedback the website crashes.......intentional I wonder.........
I have to say I read your comment and took it the same way as the DM. I think it was the bit about being too close too home and you were going to turn your back on eventing. I didn't read it as a temporary thing tbh.Especially being called dressagediva , it sounds like you were dabbling in eventing then this happened and you decided against it.
I read it like that as well but I didnt comment as it is such a distressing time and things can be said that you really dont mean etc, however, you do not expect these things to be picked up by the likes of the DM!
I was annoyed when I read the DM report and I too have left a message along with everyone else and funnily enough it's not there.

Doesn't look like anyone's comments are being shown. Unless of course the Journo is getting a kicking from their editor for being such a plonker!

MFH, i think they've got a deluge of complaints and comments from us all, and have probably binned the lot. If someone posts "Oooooh, Eventing is really cruel but Zara is really really brave" I bet it'll appear immediately...

C&p that yesterday, still just the 4 comments up there.Maybe they decided not to publissh anymore since it wasnt gettign the responce thye wanted?
Made a comment, somehow doubt it will be put up! Have to say i totally agree with everything else already said, disgraceful to drag up Zara's name in this sort of article, How must it make her feel? I know if it was me I'd be feeling so guilty. Obviously though this is not her fault.
Worrying that reporters are quoting directly from posts on here, seems to have happened several time recently...
this is just disgraceful, ian was a lovely caring funny man with a great sense of humour and time for anyone, though they have failed to mention this?
having lost a very dear friend i feel more should have been said bout him and how much he is loved and missed already not he is an 'acquaintance' of zara, they will do anything to bring her into a bit of news...its all about selling papers and views!!!
if only the sodding reporters had a heart and understood what his family and friends were feeling they may be able to write a correct accurate report!!
I stopped buying the Mail group papers, when on our way home to Northern Ireland the day after Caroline Pratt sadly died at Burghley, just as I was about to take the paper from my husband, he opened it to the centre pages took one look got up from the table and threw it in the rubbish bin. On asking why, he said "you do not want to see the photographs they have published from Burghley" I do not think I need say any more....that is why we do not buy them.
marble, i remember that. and iirc one of the tabloids (could well have been DM) headlined the pictures "SPECTACULAR FALL"... awful, awful reporting. so disrespectful when it was such a tragic occurrence.
