Daily Routine – How do you care for your horse?

mine arn't ridden so i go to the field/stables by around 10am. I give them a small bowl of chaff and some apples and carrots as a little treat. While they are eating that I put hay outside on the floor. They move on to that when they have eaten their breakfast. I then poo pick their shelter as they seem to like doing their poo's in there ! Then i check the water trough is full enough and not iced over too much in this weather. Then I walk over and check my electric box which has the energiser and battery in and make sure I have enough voltage running through the fences. I might pick their feet while they are munching on hay. I usually fill up the wheelbarrow for the next lot of hay to be distributed. Then i have cuddles ( my fav bit), sometimes i poo pick the field ( usually my helpers do that for me its my pet hate.) then lastly I will go around the perimeter of my fields and check for any faults in the fences. Then im done until the late afternoon when i do it all again !!

Both of mine are on DIY

Winter - I am at the yard for 8am and they have already been fed - I hay my youngster, muck out my big guy, do hay and feed and ride him - either school or a hack depending on weather. Then I turn them both out and muck out the little guy and do his hay and feed, sweep up and go home to get ready for work (I start at 2pm). Someone else brings them in for me around 5pm

Summer - I wil get to the yard about 9am and bring them both in (they are out 24/7) and ride one or both most days, tidy up stables, turn them back out and go home and get ready for work

Weekdays - wake up and look out of my bedroom window, go to work
Weekends - wake up and look out of my bedroom window, turn over and go back to sleep.

Mine are out 24/7 and seem to spend an AWFUL lot of time fencing...

But Equidae do you not have to do anything with them because they are out 24/7? mine are too but they still require stuff to be done daily , usually twice a day.

I'm on assisted DIY.

I do mornings - I get to the yard about 7am (although he's already been fed). He gets tied up outside with a haynet whilst I pick out feet, quick flick over with a grooming brush, change his rugs (in winter), muck out, do waters and haynets, make up feeds & turn out.

In the afternoon, my YM will bring in, change rugs and feed dinner.

I tend to leave the stable all done in the morning, as I don't do a second visit every night as the yard is about 18 miles away- generally only 3 or 4 times a week if I'm planning on riding or there's another reason I need to. I find this helps with my horse/work/life balance and ensures I don't end up prematurely single, friendless and exhausted!

I have one on part livery ( lazy as I live on the estate lol ) and one on grass with a box, yard checks twice a day.

I look out my window about 8.30am, see my gelding out with his friends munching as staff feed and turn out. Take my 4 yr old son to nursery at lunchtime, come home, get changed, wander over, muck out/nets/make feeds for gelding, then wander to mares yard and feed her/bring in if need be. Back to gelding, bring in and groom, sort rugs etc.
Both retired so no riding.

Work days: At the yard for 6.07 (alarm goes off at 6:00) head collars on both, neck up on the mare, turn them both out together.
Muck bobby out, top water, pick up haynet and tie it. Tip already made feed out of container into bucket, put cup of nuts in his ball and leave on top of his feed. Empty wheelbarrow. Sweep yard. Back home by 6.25 leave for work at 7.15. Finish work at 8pm if the day has not been dry, bring in around 8.15, damp feeds, chuck them in. Done. If it has been dry they stay out so just go and chuck some feed at them!

None work day:
Chuck out anywhere from 5am-8am depending on how ive slept!
Go back down the yard at some stage during the morning muck out, turn banks, make any empty haynets up, make any empty feed tubs up, poo pick then normal evening routine!

My 4 live at home and are out 24/7.

I give hard feed at about 8am and hay if necessary, poo pick the fields and check water.
At about 4pm I give hay, poo pick and check water.
If its really freezing/foul weather I might put more hay out at 10pm.

Not been riding for 3 months after an injury, but hope to soon be adding a hack to my daily routine!
