Been reading through some old ones such as this and thought I'd post a new thread!

Would love to know your daily routines with your horses? So interesting how everyone's differs so much !!

In summer on work days, friend turns out in morning and then I go up late about 7ish (due to small children) muck out, do nets etc and then either hack or school. On days off I turn out and do jobs then but don't generally get to ride as I have my toddler in tow. Hopefully once he's in nursery I'll get to ride a couple of mornings a week. Weekends are pony days so most of Saturday is spent at the yard and we have a lesson as well.

Every day, twice a day :)

Work days up at 5.45 & drive 3.5 miles to yard for 6am, do checks & chores (poo-pick or muck out etc depending on time of year) & home by 6.40ish for cuppa & shower etc.
Back again on way home from work to do chores etc (bring in if winter), home between 6pm and 7pm, depending if ridden or not.
Non work days, exactly the same but an hour later in morning and riding in morning too.
All non essential chores done on non work days - weed pulling, yard sweeping, hay net filling, muck heap squaring and the like, chatting over cuppa if friends drop in :)

Currently,
AM check horses, change rugs, add hoods fill water as needed.
Ponies- muck out give hay nets and shut in the woodchip paddock.

Lunch time- bring horses in off the grass for a few hours. Poo pick field

PM- feed all, turn out, poo pick woodchip hay ponies. General tidy round

Sounds so easy like that! Actually all seems to take forever but I suppose Ive not included the extras. Bucket scrubbing, feed making, hay soaking....

I ride at whichever point I have time/the weather is best ;)

Spring lightly out of bed at around 5.30am. Make coffee and sink heavily onto the sofa. Plan to go out and feed horses at 6.30/7am.

8/8.30 - go and feed horses. Lean on the fence, enjoying the sound of them peacefully munching/swear furiously and throw things at them as they all try to kill each other - delete as applicable

9am - back to the house.
9.05am - remember that I've forgotten to release the one who goes into a pen to eat in peace. Return to yard. Turn her out. Consider starting the poo picking. Go back to the house and drink gallons more coffee.

Midday. Go up to yard and feed the OAP. Consider starting poo picking. Go back to house and drink more coffee

4.30pm - back to yard. Repeat 8am process. Reluctantly do some poo picking.

Repeat 9am til 9.05am process,

8pm - wander up with the dog to check they're all still alive.

Up at 6am - if in front of house, open curtains to check neds still alive/haven't trashed any more fences.

If summer walk dogs and say hello as go past, if winter go straight to horses (oh walks dogs) and either top up hay in hutch and check rugs if out or turnout.

Home after work - 6.30ish. In summer, if I'm riding I bring all three in and ride newbie. Give them handful of food. Leave them in whilst I have dinner and put them back out 8 or 9ish. If not riding feed them, give them some fuss etc. I poo pick one night a week (just bought a hoover which is fab). If winter check hay and feed if out, if coming in often leave them until later. Sometimes I have a lesson in week.

Weekends - routine is whatever I want to do with them but field maintenance chores all done at weekend (fixing fences, harrowing, rolling, putting up electric fencing, poo picking).

Weekdays - Turned out between 7-7.30 by friend. Arrive in evening by 7.30pm, muck-out, water, hay. Catch in and ride. Wash off/ brush off, make feeds and put to bed. Home by 9.30pm. Her sharer normally does 2-3 weekdays as they're easier than weekends for her, so she has the same routine on those days only everything is done about 3hrs earlier

Weekends - I turn-out between 7-8, depending on plans or if I'm working on the yard I'll muck out, turn banks over and leave bed up. Do nets ready for the evening. Then again depending on what I've done during the day I'll either ride midday and put her back out or arrive anytime between 4-7 to ride, put bed down etc. I do like to try and get my odd jobs done on the weekend too.

My old girl I just visit 4-5 times a week to flyspray, reposition mask and give her a full once over. She's checked by the farmer every day when he does her field mates.

6am up, dressed, cup of tea.
Off to yard, muck out, and ride one.
Turn out and go to work.

4.30 - 5ish back to yard, ride the other
sort evening stables, might have some others to ride, otherwise home by about 7 usually.

Poo picking and other chores done in the evenings if horses are on a day off, or on weekends.
When the horseflies get bad then I'll swap the horses round so they are out overnight.

Weekdays

Arrive at yard at 7 (its deserted) and wander up to paddock to be greeted by gelding who loves me. Hug gelding and spend the next 10 mins chasing mare around the field because she hates me. Haul mare in. Sometimes go back for gelding but because he's retired if I'm in a rush I just throw food at him. He's happy either way.

Give mare a tiny net of soaked hay and prepare for our morning exercise ritual. She's got PSSM and needs to do some form of exercise every day - including at least 30 mins of trot or canter work. Between 8-9 I ride, lunge, free school etc because I'm pretty much guaranteed to have the school to myself.

9ish - give her a token feed, put muzzle and fly spray on and chuck her back out again. Put a big haynet in to soak for the day

Back up again anytime between 4-6 depending on work. I might get them in or I might just remove grumpy horse's muzzle and poo pick around them both.

Weekends is not much different apart from I like a bit of a lie in and I have to work around OH who has grand ideas for weekends away and forgets that the beasts need maintenance. I like them out 24:7 all year round if I can. Mucking out stuffs up my morning schedule!

Out 24/7 through summer, on lazy days just checked in field

Through winter I pay for TO and go after work to bring in/muck out etc. and ride

We don't have much of a routine really, I have a laid back horse who couldn't really care less and I like it that way!

Ours are out 24/7 all year.

In summer a friend heads down in a morning to let the chickens out and checks the horses who will come down for a few fibre nuggets for breakfast. Friend works 1 week of early shifts and 1 week of late shifts so one week I have her to help on an night and one week I am on my own. On summer evenings I will head to the yard about 7 and feed up, faff with my mare, I ride 3/4 times a week in our field and give the yard a sweep as and when it needs it.

In winter said friend still heads down to the yard in a morning to let the chickens out and check the horses, she will also pop some nets up for them. I go down in an evening about 4.30 and feed up, clean the yard every night as horses prefer to be stood in the yard and not up the field most of the day, sort nets for the evening and prepare the nets for the following morning. Will ride if our field is dry enough - if not it's hacks only on the weekend :(

Horses are turned out during day and in at night all year round.

Daughter goes to yard in mornings, turns out, mucks out, soaks hay ready for evening. Two or three times a week she lunges her horse.

I do evenings on way home from work. Get to yard around 5.30pm, put beds down, do water and hay in stables, poo pick paddock and bring horses in. Do feeds ready for morning.

Currently lunging my horse two or three times a week, can't hack as I can't leave daughter's horse alone as he will try to kill himself!

Weekends we both go to yard in morning, ride then turnout, do all stable chores, then one of us goes back to yard in the evening, we do a weekend evening each.

Currently-

Bring horses in on way to work. Diva has EMS and is a permanent lami risk so they are in everyday regardless. Hooligan tags along happily.
4.30pm- Return to do field, groom, ride, feed, turnout and do beds, hay and waters for the next day. This is interspersed with several coffee breaks!

Weekends- pretty much same routine without me going to work.

Winter is a lot more intense as mine in overnight so lots of mucking out and the fun that comes with that.

Weekdays - up at 5.45am, get ready for work then down at the yard for around 6.45am. ATM he's out at night so it's bed down, hay and get him in for the day. In winter he's out during the day so it's T/O, rug and muck out (only put bed up as I let the floor dry) in the mornings.

Get down around 4pm after work. He's already in so I groom and school/hack/lunge/groundwork (whatever I'm doing that day), then feed his tea as I muck out. Then flyspray on and T/O for the night.
In winter I try and get down for 3.30pm when it's darkest, then bring in and ride. I then put the bed down and hay, give him his tea and tuck him up for the night :)

Weekends are largely the same! Now he's out at night, I have a lie in on a weekend as it doesn't matter if he's out longer. In winter I might pay and put him on T/O to have a lie in as I like him getting out early. On weekends I ride morning or afternoon (whichever I fancy) and either a long hack or school. Normally do any jumping on a weekend as OH comes up to help. OH also rides at weekends (on long hacks we swap half way). I try and poo pick on a weekend and on my horses day off from riding during the week as well.

weekday / summer
5:30 up, get the two horses' beds down and put haynets/feeds in stables.
5:40 - bring horses in, change rugs if necessary, kiss them on noses. Feed stable cats. Wash feed buckets.
6am - 7am - get ready & catch train to work!

4:21 - catch train home
5:30 - groom horses, do carrot stretches for the stiff horse, exercise them (depending on weather/time)
6:30 - get horses ready for field, put them out
6:45 - muck out beds, change water, refill haynets, make up feeds, feed stable cats
7:15 / 7:30 - finish

Weekends in summer I get them in about 6:30 instead.

Weekday / winter
In Reverse...
Horses are in overnight so in the morning they are fed then turned out then the beds are mucked out, water changed and haynets hung up.
In the evening beds are put down, horses are brought in, legs hosed and dried thoroughly with towels. Turnout rugs are left on but I may add an under rug if very cold overnight.
Exercise during the week in the winter is highly dependent on weather and if I can work from home or not!

Haha what a silly little thread. Never understood why people want routines - surely must get very boring for all of your horses?

Because a lot of people work full/part time or have children to look after or other responsibilities throughout the day so can't just turn up at the yard whenever they want to :)

Also some horses thrive on routine and don't like it being upset.

Well, seeing as people have shared theirs I now feel inclined to share mine!

Currently, now in summer -

6:00am - amble out of bed, fall down stairs, crawl to kitchen, sleepily eat food.
6:15am - Go outside, say hello, wrestle Dusty until can brush her down and check her legs and body for heat, scratches any sign of new sarcoids that could be a problem. Check poo and all food been eaten etc. Swear at Shannon for trying to barge me out of the way, wonder why I never learn.
6:30am - Turn out both horses, check over Shannon.
6:40am - put slice of hay into field, as the grass is short and back paddock won't grow!
6:45am - Muck out both stables, leave beds up to dry.
7:15am - sweep yard, empty water buckets, take down haynets.
7:30am - move at speed of light and run into the car to meet a cross Dad, as I'm late... as always.

4:30/5:30pm - Get changed, bed down Shannon, fill haynet and water.
5/6pm - Bring in both horses, Shannon in stable Dusty outside.
5:15/6:15pm - brush down Dusty.
5:45/6:45pm - Tack up a disgusted looking Dusty.
6/7pm - Ride/ exercise!
6:40/7:40pm - Brush down, throw on cooler rug. Put down bed, fill haynet and water.
7/8pm - Unrug, check for leg heat, put into stable with hay.
7:15/8:15pm - Give Shannon her nightly haynet, sweep yard, brush down tack, lock up and go inside. :)
