My son's pony has a habit of snatching the bit and putting his head down, pulling the reins out of his hands in the process.

Would daisy reins help prevent this? I am also going to try the pony in a waterford, but any other suggestions welcomed as imagine this is an all too common problem with childrens ponies!

Thanks in advance.

A daisy rein will stop the pony getting its head down but you must have a well fitting saddle otherwise that can end up shooting forwards.

daisy reins run through the bit, grass reins (I think) run from the poll straight down to the d rings. Don't quote me on that though :o

Daisy reins are better, fitted with a good saddle and a crupper :)

A daisy rein fixes at the poll onto the bridle, grass reins go through the browband to the bit, I think thats the right way round.

Length of binder twine does just as well. Knot through the ring on saddle through the bit rings and back on the other side to corresponding ring on the saddle. Cheap and works.

Don't like daisy reins (that is mop) I don't like the way they pull to one side.

Much prefer side reins as they can be adjusted on the bit so appear to make it more comfortable for pony/horse :)

Again IMHO x

Our pony snatches reins too so I have been using baler twine as improvised grass reins - have some posh one on order though so we can be seen in public! :o

I too would not be giving a child a waterford- way too severe IMO
