I feed straw too, have done for many years to many horses, never had a colic. 
Dam and blast!! horse eating straw bed - help

As long as he doesn't gorge himself on it and eat the whole bed in one night(meet a 3 year old who who did just that on his first night at schooling livery,colic was mild enough all considered) He should be fine. Reduce the hay ration at least straw is cheaper than hay 
Jeyes fluid or fairy liquid are not really thinks I would like horses lying on or deciding to eat. Asking for trouble! If it becomes an issue use something else and feed the rest of the straw to your boy to use it up.Problem sorted.

another here who feeds straw to top up fibre witohut the calories
i'd personallly not worry and enjoy the reduced haylege costs!
