Need a bit of advice. Horse tripped and fell quite badly in our outdoor school at the weekend and wrenched a shoe off in the process. Quite aclean pull although he pulled some of the foor where the side clench is. I'm not normally a panicker but he's been in since and on that leg he has a swelling on the inside. Its in front of the main tendon area but behind the cannion bone and the only way I can expalin is that it s soft and long and spongey. The weird thing is that is stops about 3/4 way down the cannon bone length abruptly. You would almost say its the same size and shape of half a biro pen. I'm really unsure if this is what ligament or tendon damage looks like or if could even be a thick vein? He's been box rested and bandaged and when I cold hose it off, any puffyness on his leg goes but this swelling stays. Shoe going back on today so then I will be able to see if he's sound or not. He's very sore on it at the moment so I can't really tell.

If you think it is a tendon esp if still lame after shoe back on get to the vet......my boy was diagnosed with an injury to the DDFT and time was of the essence, the quicker you rest it and hit the inflammation, the better...... my boy went into a spa for two weeks following his and after another three months of rest, came back into work but timing is the key. Good luck

Any tendon or ligament problem - first ten days are most important for action/initial treatment to be taken. Vet will be given a good chance to help and work a plan asap if called promptly.

Sounds exactly like my horses injury get the vet asap and keep up with cold hosing and box rest and anti-inflammatories.Dont despair my boy had lower than 10% tear but because we treated it quickly with full 3 months rest he had the all clear to return to all disciplines.

again I agree get the vet asap Beacon is just recovering from a VERY minor annular ligament lesion, but it has been a LONG 9 weeks, and I know this is actually a fast recovery. Just started some x poles
