Hi there - our six year old thoroughbred gelding hs injured his knees after attempting to jump a wire fence into a paddock. He landed on his knees but has not damaged any skin - all skin covering the caps is sound however both knees are hugely swollen. This happened two days ago. We have been hosing three times a day, using ice poultices and now have bandaged both legs. He is in a paddock with two other horses and we have not attempted to confine him as we are concerned he will become very stressed with the separation and possibly incur more damage. Have also been using anti inflammatories and while they seem to help with pain management are not have reducing the swelling. As it is xmas very hard to get hold of a vet here. Any suggestions to help guide us through this gretly appreciated. Also if any one has an estimate as to how long the swelling should take to go down would be greatly appreciated. He is a lovely young horse being brought on for showjumping and eventing but is also a loved family member. Any thoughts welcome
