Damaged Mouth Bar

Went out for a ride this morning - nothing too strenuous - had a couple of fast canters and she behaved very well - certainly no major pulling. Rode her in a happy mouth pelham with double reins.

Came back and the horse dentist saw her - she had some very sharp hooks but he also found a nasty sore/hole in her off side, lower mouth bar.

Has anyone else ever had experience of this type of injury?

I am not a heavy handed rider - in fact for most of the ride she was on the buckle...

Also, she is very green having been a broodmare for ever and has only really been in serious work for around 2 months. She has to wear a girth sleeve as she gets girth galls - could she just be ultra sensitive? I only put the pelham in because she naps very badly (spinning and charging off) and I was advised that I needed a few more brakes! It worked and she is now much better behaved - what about a new bit? I was riding her in a french linked fulmer before.

Friend of mine had the dentist out for her's recently and was told her boy had a damaged mouth bar. He's a strong lad to ride and had previously been ridden in a pelham (although don't think it will have been a happy mouth) and was told this could be the cause of it.
She may also be crossing her jaw slightly which could cause rubbing to the bars and eventually damage them?
Your dentist should be able to advise you what bit to use to alleviate the stress and wear on the area.
