Damaged pedal bone - your experiences?

My 7 year old has just been diagnosed with badly damaged/bruised pedal bone he is out of work for the next 5 months before he is reassesd with limited T/O in small paddock and hopefully all being well he should make a full recovery but worry about the alternative anyone had similar experience?
 
Friend's pony broke her pedal bone in the summer of 2012. Long and slow recovery process, but she's back hacking, schooling and jumping and did her first dressage competition last weekend since her accident. She's not on here as far as I know so can't point you in her direction I'm afraid!
 
My husbands horse had broken his pedal bone before we had him but we didn't know until he got laminitis and was x-rayed for that and the old injury was found by chance. He was shod with pads and cushions for a wile after this to help support his feet, but now using natural balance shoes he is fine. I have done a bit of eventing, sj, and dressage with him and now my husband does a lot of hacking and a bit of xc, he has never had a problem with any of this work since the bout of laminitis and very careful with his diet and weight so as not to have a repeat of that.
 
Many years ago, I sold a beautiful horse because he had so much potential and I was holding him back. I sold him to a show jumper who started doing really well with him then one day when out on a hack he had an accident and fractured his PB and sadly the outcome was the worst. I always blamed myself for selling him.

I hope yours makes a full recovery, it will be easier for him being confined in the winter rather than summer.

Mine fractured his pedal bone at 6years old, never found the cause, he is now 26!

He spent a few months at grass, shod with bar shoes, as soon as he was back in work no real problems - well not with the fracture, plenty of other problems too long to list. Got him to almost Adv Med dressage. Has had suspected navicular in his late teens which could be related but vets not really sure.
 
Years ago we had a pony mare that double barreled a brick wall & fractured both PB's, she made a full recovery & went back to jumping just as good as ever :-)
 
My mare fractured her pedal bone about 3 1/2 years ago. She came back into full work; jumping, dressage, fun rides etc :)

She is now retired to hacking and the odd fun ride due to other problems but haven't had any trouble from that foot at all :)

My first pony mare fractured her pedal bone kicking the breeze block stable wall, was told she'd never be fully sound again but she returned to work (bit of everything but mostly jumping) a few months later, as good as new.

I only managed to box rest her for a couple of weeks - she was going doolally in the stable - before I turned her out in a small paddock.
 
My horse has pedal oestitis (sp). Took him barefoot last Nov and had X-rays redone in August and the bone is re growing. He's back in full work and the plan is to event next season :)
 
Mine stood on a nail and chipped his. Op to remove chip, box rest, then turn out (exploded!!), gradual return to work and right as rain. He was in his twenties at this point.
 
I had a horse who fractured her pedal bone as a 10 yo in February of 2001. She had 6 months box rest, started riding her again in the August and she was eventing successfully again by February of 2002. Never caused any further issues
