Silence is entered (HC) in the Intro with Dan at Twewseldown. I just thought it was worth the post as it is soooo bizarre. I know the horse has been competing at the lower levels with a couple of other riders but with Dan, at Intro..?!

I'd say that he's retired him but Silence obviously doesn't take well to being a happy hacker or a field pony so a small outing once in a while is a bit of fun for him!

Absolutely, just thought as the horse has been doing PN this year he would prob at least do that. I'm not against it in any way at all...was just very suprised to see it as a lot of Pro's don't 'do' Intro, never mind on an ex 4 star horse.

agree bet its to give him a fun little outing, he from all impressions is still fit and enjoying his work so why not give him a change of scenery and have a play HC (so as said above not pothunting!) at a level which is purely fun with no pressure whatsoever.

It's HC so what's the problem. Perhaps he wants to finish the season on a good note.

my thought there would be either 1) the event only has an intro and that particular venue worked best in terms of space on lorry etc or 2) the PN was already full so the sec advised to enter the intro

Yes just noticed the PN is closed and Intro still open so if it was a late entry that'd probably explain it

A reason I would do something like that is because my 18yr old mare has now got arthritis and although still keen and defintely not ready for retirement, BE90 is what we would be doing if still registered (too expensive when your horse has 24 points and they don't have many BE90 opens on the calendar)...I know there doesn't seem much difference in height between BE90 & 100 but even things such as drops and steps up of a slightly bigger drop/height can make a difference to an older slightly arthritic horse. NOT saying that Silence has arthritis of course...just a reason why I would do it!

I think it's quite sweet that he makes the time to let his horse play and have fun - if that is the reason. Also good for intro riders to watch a seasoned pro combination competing at their level.

He said when Laura B rode him last year that the horse was bored at home and liked to do stuff so why not. got more respect for dan letting his longtime olympic partner have a nice but active retirement than those who stuff it in a field and forget about it or those who are going to persist entering their elder statesman at high level til it drops dead on course..... Silence has got a few years of poddling about inn him yet i should think.
