24 is a dangerous age! My mare had a buck and a squeal in her this morning and really took a pull cantering up the tracks.

He has definitely got sillier as he's aged!
We had to cut the hack short as he did one of his expert level sl*t drop spooks, which my back was extremely unhappy about!

When I was doing lots of long reining when getting my pony to work in harness, I used the Ear Early Warning system too.
Ears too high - high alert and about to turn and run
Ears too low (or no ears) - eating grass
Just the right amount of Ears - spot on :)

We also suffer from Ears too low/No ears. Either eating grass, or ears have disappeared under my right leg, and I'm hanging off the left side!

I have a soft spot for horses with "mule" ears, that waggle freely to and fro. ? Maybe because they give a reassuring impression of being totally relaxed.
Funny, too, how tourists will happily ride a mule down a trail they couldn't walk up or down themselves. OMG. ??

Aw my oldie did that. His ears would flop back and forth with every step ♥️

My OH asked if I wanted to do that - nope!

My mare can change from happy ears to Ears of Death in a blink.

I happily rode a mule up a mountain at Petra, and then had to cling to the side to walk back down!

Caught them on camera this morning. Well, I got Early Danger Ears/Danger Ears Lite on camera - then put my phone away when it became apparent that we were about to move on to Full-on Danger Ears Turbo.
I love that he is still an absolute tool at 24 years old!

There are a couple of horses that I ride who move their ears around like that all the time as they try to listen to me talking and at the same time listen out for ferocious pigeons and magpies.
