Dangerous horses

they are only livestock because thats what we made them, they didnt ask to become pets and workers, they would happily be in a herd running across the feild. and as for horses with a murderous look, they look at you like that becuase they see you as a threat worth getting rid of, not just because they want to kill someone. and i dont think my statement was rediculous, if you actually read what i said properly and thought about it from another point of view maybe you might understand it.

If you re-read my OP I said if could not be cured, not that it was dangerous to ride, that if it was mentally dangerous, could never been kept as a pet as it would put the farrier/vet/dentist in dangerous, surely PTS would be better for the horse then to suffer with long feet, sore mouth and no contact with other horses or humans as it too dangerous to them all.

yes definatley agree PTS on humane grounds to prevent later suffering.

I think dangerousness (is that a word?) is a bit relative; I mean, without meaning to sound big headed, I don't think there are more than 3 or 4 people on the yard competent enough to ride Antifaz; he hates lollopy riders and would have them off in a second, but sit quietly and he's an angel. A REALLY dangerous horse however I have no time for and agree they are not worth risking life and limb over.
I read Monty Roberts's book and he says there IS such a thing as a horse that can't be rehabilitated, but they are rare (and have invariably been ruined by people). Most horses he says CAN be rehabilitated to a degree, and for example be handled safely, but it's possible that they may never be able to do a certain job, whether it be hacking, SJing, etc.
Doesn't Kelly Marks come on to the forum from time to time? Would be nice to hear what she has to say

My mum ised to be a dealer and she was telling me last night about a horse she bought at the sales about 20 years ago. She bought a fantastic section b mare, got her in the lorry and took her home. By the time she got back to her yard the pony had demolished the lorry inside and had gone ballistic.

It turns out she had been taken straight off the moors, sedated and put in the sale ring. The driver of the lorry offered my mum the same amount of money that she had paid for it and took ot away to be killed.

If a horse is dangerous and is a danger to humans then it needs to be put down. It may seem cold hearted to some people but thats life!!!!

if ti had just been taken off the moors then it could have gone to someone that would train it slowly, just because it was put in a situation where it was scared, it gets killed? who said that horse was dangerous to humans? why couldnt it go back to the moors?

I'm confused- are you and Forget me Not the same person?

Maybe they are, the avatar of inlovewith... looks like the same horse in the last picture of Forget me nots signature. Same unusual black mark.

But in the link she implies it has not been sold - kind of funny how they have the same stance. Wonder if admin will check IPs!

True. Hmmm I PM'd each of them and they said that Inlovewith.. Bought the pony. But that is obviously what they said, it could be the same person. Who knows.

The reason she sent it to the meatman is because the mare was at least 8 years old and had NEVER been touched by humans until that day when it had been put into the lorry, sedated and then placed in the sale ring.

It completley demolished the inside of my mums truck and she couldnt even get inside and close enough to get her out and into the stable. It was the safest option for all involved.

Perhaps instead of putting them down you should offer them to the ILHP. Check out their views in Horse & Rider. I believe most issues start with humans, where horses are concerned. If though they can't be resolved then they have to be PTS. Most people just can not afford to keep them as pets. There are only a very few rogue animals the rest are man made, sorry but that is my view. It does not alter the fact though that they are better PTS if all else fails. Mo had her old owner off every time she rode her, in the end she was not ridden for 6mths. After 2yrs of me riding her & staying on (god knows how), my daughter rides her. Never in a million years did I think she would ever be safe enough for her. There is nothing wrong with the mare, she competes has a fab temperment & I would never part with her. But she was classed as dangerous & if we could have done nothing with her then she would have had to be PTS, end of.

i bought the mare off fmn in october for 3000 inc evrything, she might have been offered 4000 by an unsuitable home but she came to us and i'v had her since! and yes fmn does miss libs alot and still likes to remember her, if i sold a horse i loved so much i would keep it on my sig!

Im pretty disgusted by the view that a rearer or a true bolter shoud be pts.

Totally... can;t even comprehend it.

Does this mean that just because my mare, Boo might never be ridden again she should be put to sleep? Because she's "Useless".
Or a retired animal?

Totally shocked at the view that a living things life could be so easily discarded.
