This is risky but I really do want to know, I'm not just trying to stir trouble :D What does a fat pad look like?! I see them mentioned all the time but I'm not sure I'd recognise one in a well lit room. Can anyone point me to some obvious pictures? Preferably their own (horses!) so nobody gets upset about their pony being called a chubber :D

Some horses store fat more obviously than others.

My little old dartmoor carries a couple of pads of fat in the summer right over his hips like saddle bags. He's not particularly over weight. that's just the way he stores his winter 'doing'. Quite unsightly, but I stopped worrying about it years ago. He's getting on, so I'd be more worried if he didn't have them.
 
The lumpy bits that fit in the palm of your hand are fat pads the ones in the photo are on his neck and thighs and bum He looks lovely now So a bit like cellulite only bigger dimples
