Following on from all the sycamore threads I was wondering if anyone knew how poisonous oak leaves are when brown and fallen. We have loads - though absolutely no acorns this year which is odd.
Horses generally don't eat them but must ingest a few while foraging. I have ad lib hay in the field and 2 feeds a day. They also come in when the rain is horrific. What do people think ?

Oak leaves are ok I think - it is the acorns that are the issue.

Someone may correct me though…..but we have oaks and not had an issue with the leaves.

They are poisonous though they have to eat quite a lot for it to be a problem, Most horses don't eat them as they are bitterbut I have one that loves them and will drag you over to grab a mouthfull if allowed. He'll eat Acorns like smarties too if allowed.
