Danilon

I always have mine from the vet - get a couple of boxes at a time as Mels is on/off/on with it quite a bit...didnt realise that you could get horsey prescriptions!x

I've been wonder how Benj is, since your last pot. Does the vet think that it's his arthritis making him unlevel? xx

I used to get it online from, I think it was called either vetmed or petmed, £35 for a box of 60.

Just remember your vet can charge for a prescription - different vets - different fees so check out how much they are going to charge - is it a one off fee or will they charge for repeat prescriptions? Work the prescription charge in with how much you are buying if for elsewhere - it may work out cheaper just buying from the vet! Ask the vet if he will do discount if you buy in bulk?

Thank you all very much for your replies.
I shall have a look into these. Looks like the old fella is going to need them this summer.

Hey Puppy,

Sorry I haven't updated.
I had the vet out to take a look at him.
Just confirmed that it wasn't Lami, but his DJD has got progressively worse.
He had been on 4 bute a day for the past 3 days and is only slightly better.
It also looks like his hind legs are pretty tired too.

I am going to get him on the bute (2x daily) and see if some front shoes help.
My vet was very matter of fact about the situation, even if I did have oodles of money, he is just not going to get any better. He is living in a small herd, and his decline is starting to show. He is no longer top horse.

And like everyone has said to me, better a month too early than a day too late.
I think this may be his last summer, and I am determined to make it a happy, relatively pain free one.

I used them for equipalazone. If your horse will eat it then it is exactly the same effect as danilon but much cheaper! Prodynam is cheaper still but I've yet to find a horse that'll actually eat the stuff!!!

If the bute/danilon doesn't work and you want him to have a short pain free time before the end then speak to your vet about finnadyne sachets. They are a much stronger anti inflammatory but are also much more expensive and cannot be used in the long term but it would maybe give him a nice few weeks. Hope he perks up a bit - my old mare is always worse may/june time and better the rest of the year even thought she should be worse in winter!

Many thanks for this.

I'm so sorry to hear that Benj :( (((huge hugs))), I hope you find a way to make him more comfy. xxx

Another vote for Hyperdrug .... fast and helpful and you also get points for using them to use against further purchases ... I think it works out at about 60p per sachet ................. but I might be wrong

Thanks for this. Word of mouth is the best way I think.
Will investigate what my vet is going to be charging and I'll take it from there.

interesting... we've used both (both bute brands) and never had a problem getting a horse to eat them!

never used Danilon, though.

ETA - a lot of folks have had really good results with vetrofen... is that worth a try to help him be a bit more comfortable for a while?
