?

Is anyone’s horse casting yet? Mine is completely casting and has been for the last few weeks. I’m hoping it’s not a sign of a harsh winter ahead! Our weather has been rubbish so it may have contributed. He’s due his annual cushings test in August, so wondering if this is a possibility.

Mine only recently stopped shedding winter coat so I hope not !
This summer has been a bit pants until now and I hope we will get a longer summer in total as compensation!

My coloured mare is shedding white hair, she only just got her summer coat too! I am getting her tested for cushings when vet comes to do vacs and teeth next week. She is 25 now and was much more hairy than normallast winter.

Living up here, with the very rapid daylight changes, the horses seem to shed all summer. Winter coat comes out in two layers, there's a brief summer coat somewhere in August then the winter coat starts to come in again. I think clipping year round is my answer... I just have to get better at it because MrT looks like a half worn carpet at the moment and it's embarrassing ?

One of mine didn't really get a summer coat his still shedding now, he was cushings tested a few months back and levels only slightly up but his coat was definitely not normal.

My vet was here Tuesday and I got her to just glance at him and she has given me a prescription for Prascend so he starts it next week.

Oh thank goodness I feel a bit better now!

Mine was fully clipped in the Winter and started losing a few hairs January time. Then full casting march/april. It was very short clipped hairs coming out then so that’s why I was thinking that was the Winter coat and this has to be the Summer coat that’s coming out now.

I wondered the same! My horse is coloured and came in plastered in mud to be ridden yesterday. A really good scrub with the curry and there was definitely white hair everywhere ?
Little welshie on the other hand is still loosing winter fluff!

I feel like my horse had his summer coat for like 5 minutes ? not looking forward to his winter wool. He takes growing a winter coat very seriously and requires a lot of clipping. It was nice seeing him shiny and sleek while it lasted!

I’m not sure mine had summer coat ? I was so excited to see him in his summer outfit having only bought in winter when he was clipped from ear to hoof. I feel cheated ?‍♀️

I've got one with a glossy summer coat and another who still has bits of winter fluff left that she will not let go of! The weather hasn't helped at all, summer one day then winter the next ?

The temps in the day for may/june here have been highest 15 degrees - for just a few hours - on average 13 degrees…hardly a summer eh?!
Im still hoping summer is late! ??

I'm pretty sure Frank would sometimes do like a 2nd summer shed if it was warm. Though left to his own devices he'd have just about got rid of the winter coat by June.

Mine has only just shifted all the winter coat on his legs. The patchy clip remnants took ages to go this year.

And now he's shedding again. I am hoping it's a bit of a thin of the summer coat before the heat comes in. Otherwise it's just too depressing!
