I've had loads in the house dying on the windowsills this year, but far fewer than usual actually bothering the horses. We had one in the bathroom yesterday so they are still around here in Wilts, but I've not seen any on the horses for a week or so now.

Definitely noticeably fewer up in the Durham area 😊 I’m now riding out without my zebra rug on which I don’t like but is amazingly effective.

@Barton Bounty i find using salt water for a few days on the bites really speeds up the healing process

The weather's not right for them just now. Wait until the sun's out again.
That would be today for us. I have never seen swarms of flies like it. Black flies more so than clegs but the horses are still looking tortured despite all of them being drowned in fly spray/ gel.

We rode in a very well timed drizzly half hour and then quit as soon as the sun came out again.

I rode through Mugdock today and hardly found a fly. Then I crossed the Khyber road into the forestry and found all the flies. I did the short forestry loop, regretted my life choices, then crossed the road back to Mugdock. Nae more flies. I know where all the flies are hanging out.

Is there a proper name for these things, so I can take a look?
These are the ones I use. You can see the electric charge jumping from pin to pin.

I have a nasty cleg bite between my shoulder blades, not easily reached by me and really giving me gyp when it warms up when sat on the sofa.

The thunderbugs are starting to really come out now.

Is the burning flesh yours or that of said horse fly? 🤔
Im gonna get one of them!

@Red-1 im so glad i like you and am not an enemy,,, something so sadistic about burning flesh 😂😂😂
It isn't sadistic... it i the poison that is burning so it is inactive.

You use it when you notice a bite. It dries it up.

The device says 3 zaps, but I find 30 is more effective 🤣
