Our seem to come later than in other areas so I imagine we'll be seeing them over the next few weeks.
Ill try that , thank youDefinitely noticeably fewer up in the Durham area I’m now riding out without my zebra rug on which I don’t like but is amazingly effective.
@Barton Bounty i find using salt water for a few days on the bites really speeds up the healing process
That would be today for us. I have never seen swarms of flies like it. Black flies more so than clegs but the horses are still looking tortured despite all of them being drowned in fly spray/ gel.The weather's not right for them just now. Wait until the sun's out again.

We rode in a very well timed drizzly half hour and then quit as soon as the sun came out again.
I'll test it out when I ride tomorrow.I haven't seen a horse fly for a week.
Could it all be over for another year?
Loads of other flies, but none of those cleggs here now!
Is there a proper name for these things, so I can take a look?

Is the burning flesh yours or that of said horse fly?I use the electric zapper. Like a mini taser. I zap zap zap until I smell burning flesh. It seems to burn up the inside of the bite and it simply dries up and goes. No more itchy.

You use it when you notice a bite. It dries it up.
