Hi we have 2 horses who have a barn they go in at cold/rainy times and to be fed. There is no electric for lights tho for checking rugs, feeding etc after work when dark torch works but hard (impossible) to do rugs while holding torch. Tried head torch for fishing but horse does NOT like this. Any ideas but not expensive ones please:

we got very powerful camping light (originally from argos i think) and hung it on hook instable and provided reasonable light. batteries last quite well too.

alternatively look in stable yard forum on h and h as someone posted how to set upyard lighting of battery power.

Some ideas;

you should be able to find reasonably priced solar panel lights for example on amazon or ebay. And garden lights, from places like homebase, b&q or Argos.

these may not work so well this time of year, but you can also find battery driven LED lights. I think Ikea may have some cheap ones.

Perhaps someone on here has tried.

Solar powered lights you can then take inside? We have a very big (and you can get HUGE) re-chargeable torches that you can hang up or sit on something. They might be a bit expensive in the first place -don't know what your budget is- but they are a good buy in the long run.

I bought rechargeable flourescent tubes. 2 tubes per unit could put them on with either 1 or 2 tubes. Only ever needed to put 1 on for general use, then took them home to charge up overnight. No need for them now as I managed to get mains out on, but well worth the money-£15 new

thanks had a look at yard forum & most populer seems car batteries but wouldnt know where to start maintaining/charging etc also long walk thro field to shed so would be heavy liked idea of small size batterie powered hang up lights does any one know if u can get highish powered led type ones not spotlights tho pref less than £ 50 as could prod bo with 2. thanks for replies

Before I had mains electricity I used inspection lamps from Halfords - about a tenner each - that run off a car/leisure battery. Leisure batteries are good as they are slow draining and one charge lasts a long time so not too much lugging about.

just bought some small led battery lights they hang up and are easy to use but the light is bit crap booh gutted the sales man said would be ok in the dark for about 8 m . 8 cm more like it! grr why tell me rubbish. were only about £20 tho! Might have to take them back? cant manage car battery to carry about every day i am a weed! need little led type thing that hangs up with more power?
