Darkening Leather - do I dare?

I have found a really nice saddle for a great price, the only problem is its that newmarket colour. I can bare with tangooed skin, just not a tangooed saddle! Has anybody tried to darken an orange saddle into more of a havana brown colour and been successful?

ive done it on shoes!
Maybe ring your local saddler and ask advice or how much it would cost them to do it??

What products did you use to darken your shoes?

I used Dylon shoe leather dye to make a mismatched bridle look new and shiny and matched! It worked a treat although I think I may have been a bit too ethusiastic as black dye did come off on my fingers for a while. Luckily, the pony is black too!

we managed to darken a poo-coloured bridle by oiling it. Worked a treat !

oil it first! i cant bear it when riders have black/brown bums from polished saddles!
